Post subject: | Hopefully simple questions for PVR-150 Users |
I've got a PVR-150 and it's connected with external cablebox to the tuner and satellite receiver to the s-video port. My question is this: Do I need to set the default channels (start channels) differently? For example, cable on Channel 3 and satellite on 100. Or do I leave everything on the mythbox set to channel 3 since all channel changing is done through the external boxes. Also, I've got an issue where I switch from the Tuner to S-Video, I get the "An error was encountered while displaying video". I've seen the switching from 4:3 to 16:9 could crash it. Is there a fix yet? Thanks |

If I understand the first part of the question correctly, you've got 1 PR-150 card with a cable box connected to the RF input and a satellite dish connected to the S-Video input. If that is the case, then the cable signal will show up on Channel 3 on the PVR-150 and the satellite dish will show up on the S-Video input. Channel 100 is irrelevent. |

Hi, Curious, if you don't assign a channel number to video in, how do you select it? I use channel 1 for my composite (have for years) and the only thing I can't do is press R to record which is not an issue as I simply schedule the record session. If both sources are channel three then someone would have to get up from the couch and physiclly change an rf switch. Have any kids? ![]() Mike |

I did a little more testing Strange setup I know but here is what happens. Like post #2, that is the setup. What seems to happen is if I manually schedule a recording. I can set it to record channel 3 and it will take the feed from the RF tuner and record what comes in from cable. If I schedule to record channel 300 or more, it will record what comes from the satellite (the Svideo) I didn't know that, or even if that is what it is supposed to do. Thanks |

Hi, I set mine up specificly to be channel 1 using alt+s and the #5 Editor. Big key there is on page two after you have created your channel, is to assign it a freq id (ie, 1 for me ) however mythtv may be smart enough to know that if the channel number is out of range that it uses your video source. Personnally, I like to work with repeatable facts. I select ch 1 and I get video, if I select ch 2 or greater then I get rf. I choose channel 1 because back in the early days of tv, channel one was reasigned to land mobile services so will never reappear in the tv world. That makes it a rather "safe" number for me. Mike |

Sorry, my bad. I've never used anything but the RF input on my PVR150s. I assumed it would work like a TV (some remote key mapped to change inputs), but I should know better than to assume... |

So to do some testing: As stated earlier I have two external tuners, one for cable and one for satellite. If I populate all channels through mythtv-setup for cable input in the RF, then delete all but channel 3 (any channel doesn't matter) then do the same for satellite and delete all channels except, let's say channel 1. I can then just select record on either one of those channels for the correct input. For example. I choose to record channel 3 and it records whatever comes from the cable tuner through RF. If I choose to record channel 1, then it will record from svideo (satellite) input. That fixed a problem where I tried to record and the recordings would start and end at the same time so no file could be found for that recording. All is good now. Thanks. |

Hi, There are probably as many ways to do things as there are folks on the forum. Go with what works best for you. Some folks use an irblaster and the guide to remotely control the external tuning device also and lock the x50 card on a channel (3 or 4). I personnally use ch 1 (video) for all my odds & ends type of recording. Mike |
