Post subject:  pchdtv 5500 problem

While I have used mythtv for a long time with another distro. I am using knoppmyth and a pchdtv hd-5500 card both for the first time.
Here is the problem. I know of at least two strong channels in this area, 3_1 and 3_2 both coming from the same station. When I do the channel scan I see it obtains a lock at least twice if not more. However when it finishes there is only 3_2 in the channel list. I tried manually adding the other one. When I fired up mythtv and go to watch live tv 3_2 displays fine but when I try the other channel it displays partial lock then after that it refuses to display any other channel until I reboot.
If it weren't for the fact that both channels are from the same local station and both work just fine when directly hooked up to my hdtv. I would assume it is just a case of poor signal.

Am I making some stupid newbie mistake or is there a driver problem or is it signal related?

Another question I have is do these 3_1 and 3_2 designations match a specific frequency or is that arbitrary.?

I had a similar problem with the hd-5500 card when a station that was normally broadcasting was offline one day and I happen to tune to that channel.

I could not get it to change to any other channel until I did a reboot as well. luckily I also had a HD3000 card as well and could change cards but nothing could change the channel on the hd-5500

I don't have a resolution but have had the same problem.

Sorry no resolution here either, but since misery loves company, just wanted to say that I've always had this problem with my HD3000 card. If I accidentally tune it to a marginal station (or if I've rotated my antenna, making a good station marginal) and it doesn't get a lock, it often screws up the card so that no stations are tunable, until I reboot.

Thanks for the commiseration. :) From what you are saying it sounds like the most likely culprit is lack of a strong signal. That seems strange as both stations are from the same source. However one station is broadcasting in higher def than the other, so I assume that could account for the difference.
Thanks again.

Just an update for anyone with a similar problem. I noticed in the mythtv-setup there was an option to only list channels that were free or words to that effect. Somehow that had gotten checked and once I unchecked that it found both of the channels and tunes them just fine now. I assume that the stream has something in it to tell the decoder it is not for recording,
