Post subject:  R5E50 - Netboot on LAN with existing DHCP server?

I've been having HDTV performance problems on my Mac OS X based MythFrontend on a Mac Mini. So now I'm exploring netbooting the Mini from my R5E50 backend to see if the Linux frontend will perform any better. I'm looking into using the knoppmythwiki DisklessFrontend guide, and the Diskless Mac-Mini Howto.

The issue is that the DisklessFrontend script will also install dhcpd. I already have a DHCP server on my LAN and am worried about conflicts. Unfortunately I don't know enough about netbooting to determine if dhcpd running on the backend is a hard requirement, or if it's just that the frontend needs a fixed IP address (which I've already configured via my existing DHCP server).

Can someone who has experience with netbooting let me know if it's OK to just skip the installation of dhcpd? If so, then I should be able to just comment out the "setup_dhcpd" call from the "knoppmyth_diskless_frontend.bash.sh" script.

Thanks in advance.

Were you able to get this to work? If so, are you happy with the results?

No, I haven't had the time to try netbooting my Mini as a Linux box. If I fail to resolve the performance problems with the Mac OS X MythFrontend, I'll look into this again.
