Post subject:  Installation help (1080i playback, virtual resolution, etc.)

First time mythtv user. I installed kubuntu and then installed mythtv and live tv playback was flawless, but dvd playback was jerky and for some reason vncserver wouldn't work. So rather than mess with configuration I though I would try knoppmyth. Here is my hardware:
Dell Dimension C521 - Athlon X2 2800+, GeForce 6150LE, 1GB Ram, 320GB SATA Drive
HD Homerun ATSC tuner
VGA to component converter
Samsung 30" CRT widescreen HDTV

Everything went fine and I got everything working, but I have the following issues outstanding:

1. Live TV playback is choppy when the display is set to 1920x1080i. It doesn't matter if it is 1080i, 720p, or SD content, the playback is constantly choppy (as opposed to working for a few seconds and they getting choppy for a little while etc.) When I switch the display to 960x540p, the playback is smooth.

2. When I switch xorg.conf to do 960x540 or if I do ctrl-alt-+ to get there, the desktop is much larger than 960x540. When the mouse goes to the edge of the screen it scrolls around the desktop. I don't have a Virtual setting in my xorg.conf file. To make it go to actual 960x540 I ran "xrandr -s 0" (0 is the entry for 960x540). Then it worked fine till I did a ctrl-alt-backspace to restart x.

3. The last thing has to do with DVD. When I insert a DVD I get a quick pop up and the mouse shows up for a while. Then I get a screen with folders for the folders on the DVD. Is there a way I can disable this, so that it doesn't do anything when I put a DVD in. This is very confusing for the wife and kids.

Thanks for any help!
