Post subject: | Where to get aplay ? |
Hi, I'm missing aplay utility for playing files to alsa devices. I've tried with apt-get and installed plain alsa instead of knx-alsa and it ceased to work. So now I'm more cautious. I'd just like to add aplay in safe way. Any ideas, advice, ? Thanks in advance, Robert. |

The usual way is: apt-get update apt-get install aplay It will even ask about anything it thinks needs to be added, replaced or updated before doing it... |

Hi, I think I've done that - but aplay is part of alsa-utils package and if I install that it overwrites knx-alsa package - and last time my knoppmyth sound ceased to work when I did that... That's why I'm trying to be catious this time Regards, Robert. |

I too would like to know how to do this. I'm having trouble getting sound out of mythtv, but all the suggestions I've found - even on this site- mention using aplay which isn't installed in KnoppMyth r4v3. |

Could someone at least confirm or deny whether tjc's suggestion would be safe for a novice to do, or if there is anything else I would need to know so that it doesn't overwrite anything required by MythTV. |

Unless I'm mistaken, aplay is in alsa-utils. You could also apt-cache search aplay. apt-get update, apt-get install alsa-utils. As I was...looks like it is in alsaplayer... |

Hi, alsaplayer is different app from aplay. I've tried to install alsa-utils (where aplay is included) but won't install cause "alsamixer is from another package - knx-alsa". I removed all alsa packages and tried to reinstall knx-alsa - but it says that there is no install candidate for this package - what is knx-alsa anyway ? It doesn't appear as proper package at all... Now I've installed normal alsa packages - but last time I did this, my sound didn't work - I hope it will be different this time. Anyone using normal Alsa packages flawlessly ? Regards, Robert. |
