| Post subject: | I cannot install LILO |
Hi, I get a problem while installing Knoppmyth R5F1. I want to install it on a PC. Before Knoppmyth there was running an Ubuntu with Grub Bootloader. After installing Knoppmyth I boot up again and Grup loads again, not LILO! I installed Knoppmyth with manual Installaion. Auto Installation doesn't work! 
Can anyone tell me how to install LILO manually over my grup. I tried to install LILO via Installation-Routines in MBR or in the Root-Partition. No change. |

Do you only have one disk in the boxen? If you have multiple it could be installing lilo in the wrong MBR |

No there is only one Harddisc! |

Hi, Use the grub loader and dual boot. I often " waste ~6gig" and have the Ubuntu handy. The key is use Ubuntu to partition the drive for Ubuntu (6gig), swap(384m), km-os(5gig) and km media(what is left). Then format them as you would like but don't install yet. Install KM to the desired km partition first, (select boot install to partition) Then install Ubuntu into it's reserved partition. Once it is finished, you should be able to choose either  but boot into KM and finish the KM setup.
Couple of tricks, save a copy of /boot/grub/menu.lst somewhere safe. edit the menu.lst to give yourself ~120-180 seconds for a choice. Also (important) disable the Ubuntu /etc/fstab checking of drive health of the myth partitions! change from .. 0 2 to .. 0 0 What happens is Ubuntu thinks something is wrong and will disable your Ubuntu access of the myth partitions. KM will still work fine either way. The reason for saving a copy of the menu is that some auto updates "adjust" menu settings and may remove the KM choice. I usually have mine as first and last in case the first gets modified. Mike |

Manual installation does not appear to install lilo correctly unless you follow the instructions for Manual Install, here, near the bottom of the page. There is also this. Bruce S. |
