Hello all, I recently picked up a Nokia 770 linux based PDA. It plays video nicely and more than 2 hours of video will fit on the 2GB flash card you can put in it. I put together a script to convert recordings to the AVI video format required by the device. You can find it here: http://www.reddawn.net/~jsprenkl/ In the MythTV section. Take care |

I just ordered one last week so I'll have to give it a try, but your URL times out. |

Huh. The server is up. If you continue to have problems with it can you possibly run a trace route? Since the cable company is charging me for business class I believe I'm entitled to some service too. |

I"m not so much interested in getting your script, but figured i'd spend the .03 of a second it took to test your link for you. I clicked, and your page loaded up fine for me. |

I've been thinking about getting one of these, your script might just be enough to convence me. How do you like the device over all. Thanks for the script. |

How do you like the device over all. Thanks for the script. I really like the Nokia so far. The new version selling now supports up to an 8gb MMC flash memory card (I've only seen them advertised up to 2gb, and that's what I have). It does not use the SD flash memory so the add on memory is a little harder to get. They say to get RS-MMC memory but MMCM is actually the same or better and is more readily available. The screen resolution is good and it plays video nicely. It can be setup so the usb port goes into host mode but you have to do some cable hacking to make it work. In host mode you can connect keyboards and external hard disks etc. With the wireless I think it will be a great way to stream shows from the mythtv box to anyplace. If you're a linux fan you can do a lot of fun stuff with this since it runs linux. It does not have a phone but if you want one you can connect via bluetooth to your existing phone or buy a more expensive version with a phone and/or gps. You can do VOIP with it out of the box. I didn't want it to have a phone and I was able to get it for $120. I'm quite pleased with it for the money. |

I don't know how strict this particular forum is about off topic posts, but I just received my Nokia 770 yesterday and since you asked: I'm a little disappointed. I didn't draw out the dimensions on paper or anything, but I had expected that the screen would be larger than my Palm TX. It's substantially higher resolution, but practically the same size. It also seems to be rather sparkly. I'm not sure exactly what that is, but the Palm TX screen seems much nicer to look at despite the lower resolution. That said, the Palm TX sucks. It's substantially more expensive than the Nokia 770 and the Palm company (well companies actually) is the most spectacular disaster story in the tech industry. It's mind boggling how a company that had such an outstanding product managed to make every possible boneheaded braindead stupid decision possible. The built in web browser can't handle web sites very well and many of the sites I view regularly won't load at all. Opera is available for the Palm TX, but I haven't been able to get it to do anything other than crash despite carefully following all the suggestions I can find on the web. The ONLY reason I have the Palm TX is because I do theatrical lighting design and the company that makes our lighting system has Palm software. As a wireless remote control for our entire theatre lighting system, the Palm TX is worth the price. As a PDA it's not. If you don't have a PDA or PDA-phone the current prices on the Nokia 770 are very attractive. I'm definitely looking forward to getting KnoppMyth recordings onto my 770. If you have a Windows Mobile based PDA or a video iPod or iPhone, you'll probably want to focus your efforts on getting KnoppMyth recordings onto that rather than buying a 770 for this purpose. |

If you search the forum, you'll find that someone asked about this not too long ago. I replied with a link to a post I made on the MythTV mailing list... |
