Hi everyone

Just tried install of r5f1 on the main box, specs below. After install it reboots and comes up with the following error :

INIT: Id "c7" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes

It does look like it is trying to start the x and failing. I have copied the xorg.conf.nvidia tv out sample file over the xorg.conf, modified for PAL-I, dpms false, and Composite output, rebooted, but same error comes up.

Can anybody please help ????

Is the nvidia module loaded?
Code:
lsmod | grep nvidia
And what is KnoopMyth?

Cecil

Thanx for the quick response.

Sorry for not checking this 1st, but had a look at dmesg and /var/log/messages, and the messages said to check my BIOS and set "Plug & Play OS" to No and "Assign IRQ to VGA" to Yes. My BIOS didn't have the setting for Plug & Play OS, but found "Assign IRQ to VGA" and changed it to Yes, then it booted fine into the initial myth setup section !!!!!

Just need to change font size and get everything working now !!!

(will change my sig !)

I trust this is on-topic.

While I do NOT have nvidia hardware in my backend, I have an older VIA northbridge and southbridge chipset with onboard video.

My R5C7 install worked flawlessly BUT R5F27 did not start an X-session.

My X logs indicated the driver was not correct.

A quick look through my 'xorg.conf' found the problem in the driver section...

The driver was listed as "s3" which created the problem.

SOLUTION

The screen will look as though it's locked up at a terminal...hit enter to get a login prompt, then...

Log in as 'root' and drill down to:

Code:
# cd /etc/X11
#cp xorg.conf xorg.olg
# nano xorg.conf

Search for 'Card0' and you will find a section that looks like:

Code:
The following line is auto-generated by KNOPPIX mkxf86config
Driver     "s3"
VendorName  "All"

Change 's3' to 'savage'

Save the file. Now just wait out the 5 minute cycle warning and X-windows should start and let you finish your initial post-install setup.

Good luck to all.

Squif

With one Hauppauge PVR-350 and a clean install of R5F27, my system was working percectly through TV-Out. But with With two Hauppauge PVR-350s installed, I'd get the same ID 'c7' respawning too fast error.

I compared the /etc/X11/xorg.conf files for each, and with a two card install it was missing the sections at the end for Monitor, Device, and Screen. I redid the install several times and got the same results. And I did answer yes to using the PVR-350 for tv-out during the install.

Solution: I copied the xorg.conf from the single card install and rebooted. I would then have no menus but the TV would play if I hit enter (because the menu I couldn't see woudl have been at "Watch TV"). I then changed this obtion from fb1 to fb0 as mentioned in other posts, and it took care of the remaining problem of menus also going to the TV.

Option "fbdev" "/dev/fb0"

My equipment:
Motherboard: MSI K8MM3-V (with 2GB Memory)
Processor: AMD Turion MT-37 (2Ghz)
Video Card: Rosewill ATI 9200SE (AGP 4x/8x)
PCI Cards: Two PVR-350s with a firewire card between them.
Keyboard: BTC-5100C

I'm using the ATI tuner card because of a known issue posted here about blank screen with the onboard S3 video unless you compile some drivers for it. Dropping in an AGP card was less effort on repeated installs.

I think I got this error when deciding that I wanted bootsplash after all.
I.e., running
Code:
/usr/local/bin/config_bootsplash.sh

However, after LOTS of mucking around (I did track it to an X config problem), it was fixed when I ran
Code:
/usr/local/bin/setup_350a.sh

Don't ask me to explain it.

Otherwise, KnoppMyth ran right out of the box. Bravo.[/code]

debian123 your problem may have been that the computer didn't know which output to use as it had too. You may have found that the menus were on the new card's output, but as the system was set to use your current card for TV that is why it worked when you went to watch TV.

Did you actually check that the menus weren't on the other TV output of the second 350?
