Ok, I'm a newbie to mythtv, and not very good with linux, and I've been searching for days to find help before posting....

I keep having problems getting my tuner cards set up. After a fresh installation of the latest verson of knoppmyth, my tuner cards see no video, just snow. I change the settings listed here: http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=LeaktekWinfastTV2000XPdlx, and upon restarting my box, I get errors saying that the backend server is not running.

Here is my system:

Dell Dimension 8200
2.0 GHz Pentium 4
768MB RDRAM
2x Winfast TV2000 XP RM tuner cards

I would really appreciate any help

Then you need to investigate why the backend isn't starting. The log is in /var/log/mythtv/. There are troubleshooting and tips for new users on the wiki.

Well, I have no idea how to view such a log...

Anyway.. Backend is still not starting automatically, but I am getting it up manually with alt+3. I'll try to fix that later...

I still can't get either of my cards to tune, all I get is a mostly green screen with snow at the top. Any ideas? The backend problem isn't worth fixing if the tuners won't work.

See http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page ... WatchingTV for troubleshooting ideas.

Seems that after it switches to live tv, I get an unknown video codec error.

I'm also getting:

table ' ./mythconverg/recordedseek' is marked as crashed and should be repaired

A search for "repair tables" should have led you to http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... air+tables

Don't know about the codec error, can you post the exact message?

What version of KnoppMyth are you running?

Did you choose the right card type? The BlackScreenWatchingTV page explains this under the bullet point about Capture Cards.

See cesman's DB repair posting or my Optimize DB posting, both under "Hints & Tips".

So I've done another clean install, asjusted my card settings as seen http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page ... V2000XPdlx.

I get a green screen with static on the top two inches, if I change tuners, same thing, skip up or down a few channels, my system locks up. Sometimes it locks up just after trying to go to view TV. No other OS has caused lockups.

L O G F I L E S !

(BTW - this is the KnoppMyth equivalent of the frustrated emergency room doctors saying "We've already asked twice, if you don't tell us where it hurts, we can't help you!")

Please see the wiki page for step by step directions on how to extract the information and provide it - http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=CheckingLogFiles

Stop dodging it and get it over with. It'll only sting for a few minutes.

I had a similar problem with my first install. (green screen) After I setup the recording profiles that I didn't know were there, then everything worked fine. Just a thought.
On the frontend Setup>TV>Recording Profiles (I think, not in front of my box right now) configures resolution, bitrate, etc
