Hi,
I tried installing the latest version of Knoppmyth. It installs perfectly reboots and then does a whole bunch of stuff and then the screen flashes a few times and I get the error.
INIT: ID "c7" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
Here are my system specs
Asus M2NPV-VM Mobo
AMD 3800+ CPU
Nvidia 8400GS video (PCI-E)
Sound, Lan are on board
Technisat Skystar 2 PCI DVB card
Aopen CD/DVD (I had a pioneer 112d in there but it kept on messing up the installs, i guess its a bad drive, somehow windows installed fine, nix is tooo picky I guess)
Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Question: Is there a particular reason you aren't using the onboard nVidia 6150 chipset?
A search of these forums for "respawning too fast" will yield a number of hits - Most likely an issue with the nVidia drivers not supporting (or maybe not properly recognizing) your 8400GS. Hits such as

And don't miss tjc's Hints and Tips http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=16384

Sorry I'm a complete noob when it comes to linux (hence the reason why im using knoppmyth instead of installing a linux distro and then myth on top of that)
I looked at the tips and hints, tried the command and I get something about this command can only be run in root ?
Is that administrator? How do I login as the admin?

Thanks tjc
I have logged in as root and tried running the command you have stated in your tips ("install-nvidia-debian.sh -force 1.0.9755"
It says some files are missing and then goes on the net downloads and then says yadayadayada.run (yadaydayada with nvidia something or another) could not be extracted and to restart the script.
Everytime I run the command i get the above set of errors.
This just gets more frustrating
EDIT: I have a feeling myth or nix what ever hasn't detected my NIC thats why it cannot resolve the domain ? how do I check if my NIC is working and that nix has detected it? OR how can I run the installer off a usb stick as I have it downloaded (the latest linux nvidia drivers 100.14.19) to a usb stick maybe i can just run it off that?

What version of KnoppMyth did you try to install? Use the following command to find out:
Code: cat /etc/KnoppMyth-version Those directions are appropriate for R5F27 which is what you should be using. All the files needed for 1.0.9755 should already be there. You can do this to see what versions are available as "debs" (debian style installable packages). Please note that the punctuation and spelling need to be exact. It's best to cut and paste if you can to ensure that... Code: find /usr/src/debs/nvidia -type f -print | sed -n '/.*\(1\.0\.[789][0-9][0-9][0-9]\).*/s//\1/p' | sort -u

I am running R5F27
I ran the second command and it came up with the following
1.0.7185
1.0.8776

? Should I reinstall ? What was the exact command you ran? Should have been (as root) Code: install-nvidia-debian.sh XXXX -force where XXXX is the last four digits in the version numbers you posted above - the 9755 driver lists support for the 8400GS.
I'm still wondering why you are using an add-in card instead of the onboard 6150 chipset??

8400gs has onboard acceleration for purevideo (windows) 6150 does not.

ok I tried both methods (from tjc's tips and slowtolearn's ) commands
Both did not work. I then tried one of my own and it did work lol
Code: install-nvidia-debian.sh 1.0.9755 -force Guys may need to update your tips Thanks now it loads but after everything has finished i get a blank screen. For the people that praise linux, honestly with the problems I've been through, I completely hate it. Windows rock on![/code]

If you don't intend to dual-boot I can assure you that the 9755 drivers work perfectly well with the 6150 chip on the M2NPV-VM (and should work with the 8400GS as well, but you're not going to get any PureVideo support in the Linux world according to what I've read)

After forcing the install of the 9755 driver, new dilemma
Boots up fine, i see it do its thing then when it goes and says installing nvidia driver (something like that) it then switches to a blank screen.
Nothing can be done other then hitting the reset button on the front.
Display hardware:
Nviida 8400GS PCI-E card
Samsung 17" CRT Monitor (will be used for the installation then switched to my 50" panny plasma)
Should I post this under the MythTV installation problems or is staying here in the linux section fine ?
