I thought if I left things alone for a month everything would fix itself. That ALWAYS works. Clean install V4.41 iso onto 2Ghz P4 256M RAM using PVR 250 MCE. Freezes during initial install at MSP34xx init: chip ...... MSP34xx Daemon started. Still no support for MCSE's ? Flatchmo |

ROTFLMAO!!! Sorry I just fell out when I read that. To answer your question knoppmyth still doesn't have support, because support has not been released in a stable ivtv version yet. |

I think I have the same problem. I have two capture cards, but one is this one, or an edition of this card. I understand about there not being a good driver for it, but is there a way to make the boot not fully crash? It would be nice to get the system up and running with at least my one capture card, and just have it ignore the other, that it can't interact with yet. Instead, I'm guessing that the driver it does attempt to use with the card causes major system problems and locks up the boot. Again, I understand that the driver issues are not a fault of the install, and there is nothing you can really do about it, but the question is if you can fid a way to keep this from from crashing the system on boot. Another option is just to say during the install "It looks like you have card X. KnoppMyth can't run with card X in this release. See the documentation for details." That would be better than formatting the entire system and setting everything up only to find out on boot that the card will crash. Despire all that, this looks like a great project. I can't wait to get it to work with my hardward. Davidrn |

the only solution is for you to remove the offending card download the new ivtv drivers then put it back in there. |

Thanks. I thought of that, but it's good to see that people who know what they are talking about think that's worth a try. IVTV documentation says that the current version *should* work with PVR 250 MCE, but it doesn't say that is *does* work yet. I like the idea behind the project that you should need to do as little as possible to get a working system. I would like to see a 4.4.2 version which has an install time option to use the latest IVTV instead of the standard version you recommend. Perhaps it should even be automatic. the installer could have different driver versions to choose from, and it would go with the most stable possible for the cards detected, or tell the user that a card will not be supported because there is no driver more than half-stable for the card. I won't hold my breath while I wait for that though. I will try to remove the card, and then put new drivers on before I add the card back. David |

well here's the deal the origional mce pvr250 that the old documentation still laying around on the ivtv site are talking about had the exact same chip as the regular pvr250's and indeed they work fine, hauppage released a new pvr250 MCE that has a different chip, and they do not work with 0.09 which is in knoppmyth. they do work with 0.10pre2 which is not in knoppmyth since it's not declared a stable release yet. |

We need another pointer to the article/web pages which goes through how to identify all the variants... An up to date version of this... I saw one somewhere... http://home.t-online.de/home/gunther.mayer/bttv/bttv-gallery.html AHA! Found it! http://htpcnews.com/main.php?id=pvr_card_id_guide |

Here's a handy tip: instead of removing the offending cards, just boot your KnoppMyth CD. Once you get to the install menu you can ctrl-C to the shell, then mount /dev/hda1 to /mnt. Then you can just go edit /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv to add the cardtype option. The original poster probably needs something like cardtype=1,2 if he has a regular card and an MCE card. Not sure if R4V4.1 has a ck patched ivtv or not? If not, he should wget http://kmos.org/~ckennedy/ivtv/ivtv-0.1.10-pre2-ck<nn><x>.tgz, unzip, make and make install to get an ivtv compatible with the MCE card. Hope that helps, JohnO |

well for someone unfamiliar with linux just removing the card is probably easier, because knoppmyth does not have a patched ivtv driver which means he would have to download unpack, make, and you can't just make install if you are booted from the cd you would have to chroot the make install or it will fail. |
