Keyboard Num Lock on at boot
I like to have the keyboard Num Lock on all the time. There doesn't seem to be a easy way to make that happen with X11. numlockx is a small program that that turns the Num Lock on at boot. It can be installed very easy and is small in size only 88 kB installed. No configuration is necessary. The next boot your Num Lock will be on.

http://packages.debian.org/unstable/x11/numlockx
Code:
# apt-get update
# apt-get install numlockx

Some computers have that as a settable option in the bios. Interested parties might want to check for a setting there, first.

I can only quote the experience I have with three different motherboards running F27 and R5.5 all with the bios Boot Up NumLock Status Settings. None of those machines will keep that setting past the bios stage of the boot. As soon as Linux starts they are turned off. If you set it at that point the minute X starts Num Lock is again turned off. Dos your machine keep the Numlock Status on after X starts?

I haven't checked or even tried it. I just knew that some bioses had that setting, so I posted, not thinking that Linux would be over-riding the setting. Sorry for posting without checking my own machine first!

If you have time to check yours and post back that would be great. I only see what is happening in my little world.

TVBox: I guess it is a small world, and yours and mine are overlapping! I have two machines and they both act just like yours. Booting Knoppmyth turns numlock off and if I turn it back on, the X startup turns it off again! No matter what the bios setting is set to.
