R6 root password - how do you set it?

Post subject:  R6 root password - how do you set it?
Hi, I just tried my first clean install of LinHES R6. Was there a place to assign a root password during setup? If so, I missed it. Now, I can't log in as root - only as a user.

Can I recover from this? Can I rerun the LinHES setup and enter a root password during the process? Or can I issue a command line command in a terminal screen and set the root password? Or do I need to wipe the hard drive and reload from scratch?

I was a bit thrown off by the loss of use of the ALT-CTL-F1 through ALT-CTL-F6 key sequences to bring up a terminal window.
Then, I found this wiki article that cleared up that mystery:

Yeah, you missed it. It's kinda subtle - when you are assigning your own username/password, you also need to do one for root on that screen. I can't remember if there is a way to do this once you've installed or not... possibly sudo something. Maybe someone else will know and answer your question.

Thanks for the idea.
I just tried to use "a" as the root password. It didn't work. :(

Is there a way to re-run the LinHES setup screens? Perhaps a script to run?

Service Menu > LinHES Configuration > Password
If you don't see the above, ensure you have the lastest software.

Thanks for the ideas.
I tried the Password menu screen. It said "You do not have access to this screen."
I'm going the "sudo pacman -Syu" now...

Odd...the process bombed out with errors.

You can always boot off the CD and...

That is good information to know. I will print and file this for future use.

I ended up just reloading from scratch before you had a chance to reply. So, I'm up and running with R6 with a known root password. :)

Just for reference, if you don't set the password it's blank.
In the past it was the letter "a" but people complained, so now it's blank unless you set it during the install.

I also tried a blank as a password. It didn't work.

Looks like this is fairly old now but you can also:

sudo passwd
(enter your new password)

and you're done! Hope this helps somebody.
