I recently got an iPhone and am trying to get it to work with MythTV, but much of the documentation is outdated and doesn't work (at least not for me).

I'm running R5E50 which has been stable for me for years. I'm not looking to upgrade at the moment because the kids and wife would kill me if I broke it.

I tried following the instructions at:
http://mythtv.org/wiki/Streaming_to_iPo ... _or_iPhone

The PHP works, it says it is encoding the file and that it should take about as long as the show is, but it never happens. No mp4 files show up in my recordings directory.

I think I do not ffmpeg setup sufficiently.

I tried following the instructions in the wiki
http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=VideoIpod

but even after changing
Code:
--enable-xvid
to
Code:
--enable-libxvid
and
Code:
--enable-faac
to
Code:
--enable-libfaac
and adding the
Code:
--enable-nonfree
I can't get the .configure step to work. I got the following error:

Quote:
root@mythtv:~/ffmpeg# ./configure --enable-libxvid --enable-gpl --enable-nonfree --enable-libfaac --prefix=/usr
ERROR: libxvid not found

I'm stuck here. Where can I tell if the ffmpeg is installed? How do I get this working?

Thanks
If I can get it working, I'll happily write it up in the wiki.

ffmpeg was trouble for me until 27? I dont remember. But things work well in R6. I can stream over g3 nicely, but I have changed many of the default settings to my liking.

What is the best documentation for doing a backup from R5E50? I want to be able to recover from a failed upgrade.

Also, any guidance for moving from IDE to SATA drives in the upgrade process? I'm hoping to go to a 750GB to 1TB drive.

Thanks
