I have an Onboard VIA chipset and it works. There is some hum, but I think I may need to ground the TV first before I worry about that as an issue.

However, I was wondering if an old PCI Sound Blaster would be a better card?

It seems to work now, so I may not want to rock the boat on this, but I wonder what your experiences may be with other sound chips.

If your using analog out upgrading the sound card can improve the sound, depending on the sound card.

The best way to output the audio is via digital. Depending on your hardware you can use optical, coaxial or HDMI.

If your motherboard doesn't have any digital outs on the back panel, look at the board itself. Their is usually a spdiff header on the board. If their is you can make a coax out using that header.
