For flash there is a "flash support library" which essentially provides an ALSA API like wrapper for OSS. That might also work for WebM video.

You might also try installing the most recent version of ALSA, since a lot of things seem to expect that. I had to do that and fiddle with some configuration to get audio over HDMI working for everything (including video in the browser). You need alsa-driver-1.0.24, alsa-lib-1.0.24.1, and alsa-utils-1.0.24.2. The details are in a post I made roughly a month back.

I Saw your post I thought it didn't apply to my situation becasue I'm using OSS (that's what works for the digital out)
I also saw some posts about the ALSA emulation within OSS.

Thanks TJC

I went through both OSS and ALSA before getting the sound working everywhere to my satisfaction.

The OSS version which is in the repository for 6.04 worked with the HDA audio chip on my motherboard for some things but I had to hunt down and add the ALSA wrapper library to get other things working, There were also several things just didn't play well with OSS. I forget exactly what the status with HDMI support was, but the overall picture was a fairly nasty patchwork.

Building my own ALSA package with the latest stable versions gave me a much cleaner result, the only real challenge was wading through all the devices to figure out which one to use and which alias to use for it in different places.
