I've just installed (manual installation) Knopp Myth release 4 version 4 - "Aunt Elaine".

I have created the 4 partitions and selected the partition in the configuration page to install knoppmyth to. I also formatted the cache and myth partitions as described.

After the "KnoppMyth Installation succeeded" message I thought I was all set to go.

However, I cannot boot from my hard drive since it is not located in /dev/hda it is /dev/hdb (partition /dev/hdb1 is root) - this is a newbie question I know - but how do I change this ?

I know I have to edit /etc/lilo.conf and run lilo - I tried this, but since I have booted from the CD, /etc/lilo.conf is pointing (symlink) to the one on the cd and it is of course read-only - so what do I do instead?

I will be gratefull for any help or links you might have that can assist me in getting MythTV up and running.

It is a completely fresh installation and empty hard drive, so I am willing to reinstall if you can tell me where I have to change something. But I would prefer if it is just editting a few files.

I have used Debian for a period of a couple of years when I went to the university - but it has been almost two years since my last boot into linux - so I have forgotten most of the advanced stuff and only the basics remain :-/. But if you can tell me what to do I am almost certain I can figure out how to do it :)

Thank you in advance.
Regards,
Flemming Joensson

PS: I did select that KnoppMyth should write Lilo to MBR when I was asked - but it seems it wrote the default lilo.conf and not the values I chose during manual installation.

I assume you installed to hdb because some other OS is on hda? You'll need some sort of boot manage on hda.

Wow - that was a quick response.

Actually no - there is no /dev/hda at this time - only /dev/hdb - is this a problem? In my BIOS the /dev/hdb drive is listed as first boot device - so it does check the drive, it just cannot boot.

It is however an old motherboard - Asus CUSL2-C with a brand new 120GB Seagate hd - so I should probably enable some "large drive" support - but is there anything else I have to do except enable lba in lilo?

if there is only hdb you can boot off the knoppmyth cd then mount /dev/hda1 rw then chroot to it and edit and rerun lilo to install the boot block, but the obvious question is if you only have one drive why in the world do you have it as primary slave instead of primary master?

I'm about to change it. Just plugged the drive in the controller with the jumper set to cable select and used the middle connector on my 80pin ATA cable.

Just didn't think it would matter at the time I did it...

That helped, after moving the drive to hda the installer was also able to run the auto installer. I can now run KnoppMyth from HD.
