Post subject: | SMP install on R4V4.1 dies |
ext3 invalid journal inode. I did search, and ran across a post, but the thread ended with compiling a new kernel. Is there a solution? I'm guessing the ext3 module needs to be different for SMP... Also, the /usr/src/debs/smp README says R4V3, but has the same kernel level so I blindly trusted it was current... This system is a Abit VP6 with dual 1G P3 and has been running different Linux flavors happily with SMP for years. I booted and did an fsck and modified lilo to give me time to change the boot sequence, but kinda getting tired. Please tell me theres a silver bullet... BTW, KnoppMyth is outstanding! Kudos and sincere appreciation. I can throw slaves all around the house. |

Yes, the kernel is the same... I have not heard of any issues with the SMP kernel. i don't know what the problem maybe. When you install the kernel, the modules that get install were compiled with the kernel... |

Post subject: | ext3 failing from initrd |
cesman, I think that I have traced the problem to the ext3 module in the initrd (which is not replaced by the SMP image). I say think because I've been working it from a CD boot without initrd-tools and probs pulling it. Can you give an opinion? I won't get an opportunity to play with it anymore till next week. Unfortunately, paid work intrudes... |

I dont recalling having any problems with the SMP kernel when I tested it. If you suspect initrd, you can boot off the CD, mount and chroot hda1 then mkinitrd. |
