Post subject: | DMA not in kernel |
Hi, I've gone through the auto-install and DMA doesn't seem to have been compiled into my kernel? Is that right or have i done something wrong? Thanks |

I'm not sure what you mean about "dma not compiled into the kernel". It has to be enabled via hdparm. Search the archives for hdparm and dma and you will find how to enable it on your system. If you mean dma in some context other than hard drives, please elaborate. |

I came across this on the documentation page of MythTv: "Fast CPU, choppy or jittery video First, you should check that your kernel has been enabled for DMA: [mythtv@pvr mythtv]$ dmesg |grep DMA ide0: BM-DMA at 0xd800-0xd807, BIOS settings: hda:DMA, hdb:DMA ide1: BM-DMA at 0xd808-0xd80f, BIOS settings: hdc:DMA, hdd:pio hda: 156301488 sectors (80026 MB) w/2048KiB Cache, CHS=9729/255/63, UDMA(33) hdb: 80043264 sectors (40982 MB) w/2048KiB Cache, CHS=4982/255/63, UDMA(33) If your kernel is not reporting DMA being enabled, you may need to recompile your kernel. " My dmesg makes no mention of DMA so that's why I thought I needed to recompile my kernel. Thanks |

nah just use the hdparm stuff you will find outlined on this board, and on the wiki. to check for and enable dma. |
