I'm placing this here since I don't know where it would best fit.

I installed mythweb as well as the username and password setup from the wiki.

HOwever, when I try to access via the web mythweb I get a 404 error page not found.

any suggestions.

wow could you be a little more vague. Installed mythweb? any particular reason, since it gets installed with everything else? did you reinstall it on a different version or for some patch or option? and localhost? are you using a web browser on the actual mythtv box? if not you need http://ipofthemythbox/mythweb/ if you are on R5A9/10 or http://ipofthemythbox/ if you are on R4V5

sorry for being so vague:

I though mythweb was an optional addon that needed to be manually installed.

when I go to http://192.168.x.x/mythweb I get the login username and password window but after that I can't get the page to load up.

I'm on R4V5: when I go to http://192.168.x.x The page tries to load up but don't get anything. I do see how the address at the address bar changes to http://192.168.x.x/program_listing.php

Thanks I'll definately try that.

How do I make sure that mythweb is installed corectly on my system. I read that it was an addon and needed to be installed manually which I did by following the manual at mythweb.org I seem to have all the correct files and folders and can see them.

Thanks again.

MythWeb is an option for MythTV. KnoppMyth included all modules.

ok I tried the refresh button trick and I finally was able to load up mythweb. Its very slow and does not seem predictable. I'll keep playing with it .

I'm sure this has been discussed before, a search of the forum should turn something up. On the other hand, KnoppMyth is not really hardened for direct net exposure so I'd recommend being very careful about this.

you might be able to plug in your router's make and model with the words "port fowarding" into google and see what you come up with

if you're unable to find anything give me a yell and i'll walk you thru it but if you do ... expose only port 80

you may even look at the site http://portforward.com which I'm sure google would have brought up.

Search for webmin, and (excepting this post), one of the top few posts will be about setting up webmin and changing the mythweb config to require a userid/password.

Course, you'll probably want to set up ssl too, at that point.

could you walk me through this. I have setup a username and password for restricted access. I can see that it works fine on my local network.

I setup my router for port forwarding.

I game my mythbox a static IP both in netcard config and at the router level.

I'm assuming I need to use the help of somone like dyndns to forward my current ip everyso often. But, the IP its forwarding is that my router picks up from my dsl provider. When I go to that ip address I get a window asking for a username and password to a computer I don't have.

any suggestions?

one of two things could be happening ..
either you're getting the remote admin for the router
or that is your system but it's reporting something different

if you could make the public port something not generally used like 8070 or something like that ... just an extra measure of protection
the address you'd type in is http://yourip:8070
if you used the example above

walkthru:
after setting up static ip's
set the private port for you machine's ip to 80
set the public port to 80 or whatever you would like .... 8070 is a good obscure one
go to dyndns and grab an account
once your ip and the dyndns hostname sync
http://dyndnshost:80 or 8070
and you should be in
