Post subject:  Live TV will not start

Hi,

I have been trying for two weeks to get my system working and, not that I have much hair, but I have been pulling my hair out for a few days.

I got the system working and then stupidly changed something. I don't remember what that was, I was drunk, but now I cannot get Live TV to work.

I have seen the threads talking about recording something first and then all is great with your PVR-350 but not for me. I can record and then watch that stuff but I cannot ever watch live tv. I get a blank screen, the backend then times out telling me that the remote encoder not responding and then stops dead never to work again until I re-boot.

Now I am but a lowly Java architect so be nice to me please, I would appreciate any help. Also, as my system has been in pre-production(letting my wife use it) for 3 weeks now so my wife is getting a bit angry about the whole thing!

The difference between live tv and recordings is that live tv requires a buffer. By default it's /cache/cache on KnoppMyth. Perhaps the location is changed in your settings, or you do not have proper rights to it (user mythtv needs write rights on /cache/cache). Checking /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log and /home/mythtv/.xsessionerrors should give you pointers.
Another thing to check is the recording profile for live tv. Maybe somethings wrong there.
Now stay away from the alcohol before checking all this

I have also had problems with the starting channel (which you can set in mythtv-setup) not being a valid channel. Might be worth checking.

Post subject:  still no joy

I tried changing the default channel but sadly no joy.

There are no log files like the ones suggested but the /var/log/messages has

May 14 08:16:31 localhost kernel: Call Trace:

Clearly this means something but not much to me!

I did wonder if lirc was upset but it moves me about ok. The directory permissions for /video/buffer are currently allowing everyone passing on the street to do whatever they like.

So sadly I am moving in the complete re-install direction.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Nigel

By the way my wife is now officially not talking to me, which has been quite helpful in allowing me to spend my Saturday doing this :)

Help, as always, appreciated.

I have also seen this in the log which I think is the start of the stack trace,

bttv: Unknown symbol tveeprom_read
bttv: Unknown symbol tveeprom_hauppauge_analog

Looking over the net I might need a later ivtv driver but nothing later is available on apt-get so I am a bit stuck. [not being used to compiling stuff in this environment]
