I'd like to map the keyboard Tab key to a button on my remote. I've verified that SKIP is working as far as LIRC is concerned (I see output if I run irw and click that button on the remote)

I've found that MythTV's 'Import CD" function needs a Tab to get past the section where you select the encoding quality. Down/Up don't work here.

I've tried the following in my ~/.mythtv/lircrc file to map the SKIP key (not currently used in my settings)

button = SKIP
config = Tab
end

and I've tried using config = \t

Any ideas would be appreciated.

It appears that MythTv does not natively support the Tab key, however irxevent does.

I sacrificed the yellow and blue buttons:
