Hi, I have a pvr 250 and pvr 350 card in my Myth box and find the quality to be pretty poor, the colour looks washed out compared to 'normal' TV and it is not as sharp. I am using PAL and have settings set to 720x576 and the bitrate at maximum, can anyone offer any suggestions, im really put off by the lack of quality - even my wife has noticed it and I am trying to persuade her to give up Tivo in favour of Mythtv ![]() Any help appreciated |

Well I switched to the latest beta ivtv drivers for other reasons, but the image quality on them is much better than the stable drivers that ship with knoppmyth. Others have also said that changing firmware might help. If you search the forum I think there is a thread about pvr350 image quality in particular where more than one person had good luck with one particular version of ivtv and one version of firmware. Good luck. |

I have done some more tests and played back the recordings through my xbox using the xbmc mythtv app and the quality looks great so I think it must be the TV out quality from my Graphics card. All I need to do now is find a howto on setting up tvout from the pvr 350 card and hopefully that will giveme the same quality as the xbox. Thanks again Xsecrets |

A search should find numerous threads about TV-out quality. Botton line, the TV-Out on most video cards just isn't very good. However if you're using the current Nvidia drivers the "nvidia-settings" program makes it pretty easy to tune things up. I found that using it to adjust the gamma setting was the key to an acceptible picture that didn't either burn out the light colors to white or leave all the dark colors black. A setting of about 1.525 worked for me but YMMV (Actually your mileage WILL vary - probably even if you had the same video card and TV). |
