OK I have a PVR-250 card using the composite4 input
I setup 3 tv channels for testing, but once I sorted out issues with my
remote I now find that the channels will not change.
when I hit the ch+ the input freezes (as normal) but all the onscreen info
stays for channel 1
The same happens when I hit the channel number on both the remote
and keboard!
I searched the forum but turned up no hits
Any thoughts?

well what are you using to change the channel? if you are using composite input then the card or mythtv cannot change the channel by itself. you'll have to use irblaster or serial or firewire and a related script to change the channel on whatever device is outputting the composite signal.

lol I think I havn't explained myself correctly!
I have a sreial IR sender to change channels on my cable box (needs setting up).
The trouble that I'm having is that the Myth won't change channels on screen.
When I select "Watch TV" channel 1 is selected and program data is
displayed at the bottom of the screen. I select channel 2 and channel 1
number and program information is still being displayed.
All the information is listed in the program guide so XMLTV has imported the data correctly.
I'm at a loss !

I though I might an previous version to R5A16, but I can't find any of the
ISOs. Anyone know where these might be hosted??
TIA

The problem I'm having is as follows: -
1) Fresh install of Knoppmyth.
2) Run through the setup app set video input as composite 4 and set 5 channels via the UK alternative option. (etc)
3) set the video inputs for the named video input
4) mythfilldatasbase is run
5) Check TV guide, all channel data is listed
6) select "Watch TV"
This is where the confusion seems to be comming in.
I will be setting up a RS232 IR sender (got the link from the Knoppmythwiki) http://www.redremote.co.uk/serial
I had this setup on a previous version of knoppmyth
So the system is now up and running and is displaying the input from my Set Top Box.
If I select the ch+ on the keyboard or remote, channel 1 number and program data is displayed. If I select ch+ again
I'm expecting the video source to stay the same, but the channel number and program information to change to channel 2.
But is stays on channel 1.
If I select the channel browser navigate to say channel 3, I'm expecting the video to stay the same and the program number
and information to change, but it stays on channel 1.
I'll have to setup the IR channel changer to see if it sends the command to change channel
This wasn't a problem with V4R5
I'd love to use the new version becuse it looks so much better
but I'll revert to a previous version if it works!
TIA

Knoppmyth makes no attempt to use the IR yet it works from the
command line.
To be honest I expected this result!

Ok I got my hands on R5A12
installed & configured it
The same issue is appearing??????
The only difference I can see from the version that worked
is that i get
1: Composite
Showing on the screen (OSD) then fades.
then it will only show the startup channel's data and channel number
when i try to change channel
I only have 1 250 card in the box should I be getting this?
I havn't yet setup the IR sender but I'm guessing I'm going to get the same result as before!
I might just have to go back to V4R5

OK
I have reinstalled R5A16
This time I have setup the Tuner to see if this makes any difference!
When I select Watch TV, channel 3 number and data is displayed from Myth's OSD (set in mythtv-setup).
When I select ch+ or ch- the video freezes for a moment (as it caches the video)
but the channel doesn't change. If i select the channel browser I can scroll through the program data.
But when I select to view a different channel it stays on channel 3.
From the lack of response to this post I'm guessing: -
a) I'm not explaining mysef very well
b) This is not a common issue that other people have seen!
What information do you need to see (logs etc) to better identify what is causing this issue?
TIA
Steve

It quotes that it is most likely that the database is not set up correctly
but as i have stated previously when i go into the channel browser/program guide
all of the information is there??
This is a vanilla install without the remote and IR sender setup.
Anyone else had this issue??
If so, how did you resolve (This is driving me nuts )
TIA
Steve

I think you've got something wired funny...
- The tuner in your capture card only works with a signal on the screw on BNC coax connector.
- You can get "raw" (without a broadcast carrier wave) video input (S-Video or composite) on the other connectors but no tuning is involved by the card in this case.
- The output of your cable box can be one of a couple forms, either "fixed channel encoded" (screw on coax connector and the box reencodes everything onto some low channel like 3 or 4 like an old VCR), or raw (S-Video or composite). With the former you need to set your TV or capture card to a certain channel, with the later you must bypass the tuner on your TV or capture card.
- Do not confuse RCA phono jack type composite connectors with screw on BNC type connectors even though both have a coaxial layout. When we say coax we mean BNC.
'Kay I haven't had any breakfast and my "blood sugar low" light just came on so that's all for now...

Hi tjc
Many thanks for taking the time to reply.
Quote: think you've got something wired funny... Yup I agree This all worked fine with V4R5 Quote: The tuner in your capture card only works with a signal on the screw on BNC coax connector. Here in the UK we don't use BNC but I know where you are going here. I only switched to the tuner to see if the program data would change when I tried to change channel. Not quite sure where your going with this??
My cable box has a euro scart connector giving me composite video.
It also outputs broadcast signals that i can pipe into a tv/vcr can then tune in.
And it also has 1 channel set (61 I think) to watch the box like you would with a vcr.
Please excuse my lack of knowledge here.
My intention is to pipe my cable box's composite video feed into my myth box, and have it change the channels via an IR sender to the cable box.
However when I try to navigate away from the starting channel (set in mythtv-setup) it is unable to. It just continues to display the information for the starting channel.
I'm going to try this again but set it to use the composite feed, and see what errors I get in the log file.
I'm also finding it difficult to express the issue I'm having so that other can understand me.
Just to ckeck...... am i making sense
Steve

Just another update
After finding the log entries that state an error against checkchannel,
I decided to search the forum for hits on this keyword.
What I found was this seems to be caused by: -
1) an issue with the ivtv driver and config file.
2) a database error.
3) a corrupt database.
So I did the following: -
1) install ivtv-0.3.6g
Result: - captures video from composite 4 but still unable to change channel
2) run mythtv-setup answered yes to both questions reconfigured and run mythfilldatabase.
Result: - all channel data captured and can be displayed in the program guide. but channels will not change
3) ran the commands from the hints & tips section to located and fix crashed database tables
Result: - No change, still unable to change channel.
To be honest I can't see how the ivtv drivers would change this issue??
If the database is causing the issue what would be the best way of resolving it (e.g. reinstall myth?????? etc)?
I'm clutching at straws here any suggestions would be appreciated.
even if it's RTFM (as long as I know where the manual is )
TIA
Steve

OK, lets clarify...
Is the IR balster not working and making the cable box change channels?
Or is the issue that the channels change but the OSD stays the same?
Or is neither happening?
When you went throught the setup program again did you configure for an external program to change channels? (I haven't done this so you'll need to track down someone who has for more details)

Hi tjc
Quote: Is the IR balster not working and making the cable box change channels? Currently the IR blaster is not setup. on one of my previous installs it failed to change the channels but worked fine from the command line! Quote: Or is the issue that the channels change but the OSD stays the same? With the previous install the channel didn't change and the OSD didn't change either. Currently I'm just trying to get the OSD to scroll through the channels then setup the IR blaster . I think the checkchannel error is stopping the IR blaster and the OSD from working! Quote: When you went throught the setup program again did you configure for an external program to change channels? (I haven't done this so you'll need to track down someone who has for more details)
On the previous install yes, and this worked from the command line the executable and the shell script used worked fine on V4A5. As per above
I'm looking to get the OSD working first then worry about the IR Blaster!
