Post subject:  Hauppauge 250 Re-setup or Edit Settings

Hello. I think this should be my last question for awhile. I have everything thing working except my Hauppauge 250 card.

Is there a quick way to edit the settings on the card? I'm only finding information on installation.

I am using the SVideo input, and while I hear the audio just fine, the computer (haven't switched to a TV) goes grey and crashes.

Thanks very much.

Try:
Code:
ivtvctl --help

Ah, thank you very kindly. Actually, I'm presently using this variant:

ivtvctl --help |more

to be extremely helpful. I flunked Evelyn Wood. ;)

Party on, Wayne.

Hey, it could be worse, we could be back in the day when terminals scrolled slowly enough that you could keep up... ;-)

That was helpful, and I used

ivtvctl -n

to list video inputs and

ivtvctl -p 6

to set the input to 6, which is SVideo NTSC.

ivtvctl -P

checks that this worked. Also,

ivtvctl -Y

lists all values, which is nice.

But unfortunately, the symptoms are the same: everything works except going to watch TV crashes the system.

If someone could please direct me, I believe the the way to solve this is to go back into the setup for the Hauppauge 250 card and have it re-insert the standard profile. (I must have done something to override this.)

I don't care if I do this through the GUI or the CLI, but I'm not finding how to do it.

I'm just one setting away from loving it. :D Thanks again for your help and patience.

Run:
Code:
mythtv-setup
Select the "yes" button at the beginning when it asks if you want to clear your capture card settings.

once you've cleared your capture card settings then reenter your card and make sure you set it up for the svideo port, I think there are a few svideo ports, so you may just have to guess and try again if it doesn't work. also don't skip the input connections or whatever it's called and make sure you set it up to have your video source on the same input as you set the card up on.

Thank you very much!

At this point, the online instructions become confusing. Each page points to another, and I'm not sure how or if I'm supposed to follow. For instance:

The wiki's instructions:
http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... ythInstall

tell us to see this page:
http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... iewInstall

but it becomes most confusing when it then refers us to this page:
http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-9.html

I assume the "4 steps" they want me to follow are NOT 9.1 through 9.4, but the areas labeled General, Capture Cards, Video Sources, Input Connections, with Channel Editor being optional.

NOW is the point where I'm not really sure what to do. Using the GUI, I looked into system status, and saw that the backend wasn't running, so I think I'm supposed to run

mythfilldatabase

and then

mythbackend

I did so, hoping I'm doing the right thing, and the output includes:

Failed to bind port: 6543

That port is open for both UDP and TCP packets, and not forwarded on my router. I just restarted that router yesterday, and it seems to have no problems.

Well, the computer doesn't crash anymore, but the computer screen is still blank.

Sorry to be dumb, but I'm really not sure which stupid mistake I'm making.

if you've changed your video sources (channel lineups) you have to run mythfilldatabase other wise it's not needed. The proper way to start the backend is from a root command line type

/etc/init.d/myth<tab> start

the tab above is because I forget the exact command, but if you hit the tab key it will compete the command for you. you can also use restart to just restart the backend or stop if the backend is running and you want to stop it for some reason.

Post subject:  S-Video Settings

Using CLI:

input 6 = S-Video 0
input 7 = S-Video 1
input 8 = S-Video 2
input 9 = S-Video 3

All are marked ( PAL NTSC SECAM )

input is currently set to 6

trying 7, will reboot and check... same result
trying 8....

Hi. none of these worked. I tried every S-video input.

Any other ideas?

what are you trying to connect to it? if it has a coax output maybe try that. I'm out of ideas on the svid I've personally never used svid.
