Hi everyone,
...i am very new to linux, and have just been setting up a myth backend/frontend (got mythfrontend running on xbox after 4 days off no sleep ) setup for my house. Just like thornydevil, i have purchased one of the Technisat airstar 2 cards and have been having great difficulty getting it running it the latest KnoppMyth version...currently R5A16.

Quote:
I've been successfully using the DViCO FusionHDTV DVB-T Plus card for a while, but I am now trying to find a DVB-T capture card that works out of the box with KnoppMyth (no kernel patching required). After a bit of research the TechniSat AirStar 2 PCI seemed to be the way to go (in Australia). Not enough research I guess...

Auto Install of KnoppMyth r5a16.
Post-install mythtv-setup freezes when I select [new capture card], from the "2.Capture Cards" menu.

Terminal window says:
Couldn't open /dev/video0 to probe its inputs.

That is from thornydevil's post, where he later posts again and says that he fixed the problem by updating to the 2.6.12 kernal.

The problem is that i do not know how to do this, and i have tried using apt-get, and attempted to follow the heavily outdated knoppmyth wiki DVBHOWTO. Unfortunatly all my attempts have been unsuccesfull.

Can anyone point me towards some farely straightforward directions on how to update to the latest kernal, or if not, would you have any advice on how to get this card working...Any help will be appreciated

Cheers, Damien

The DVICO Plus card works with 2.6.12, and the next KnoppMyth version will have at least that version of the kernel. So it's not long to wait and the DVICO should work out of the box too (or at least without compiling the kernel).

My Tier 2 post http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4527 shows exactly how to compile a kernel (because the script I posted does it). Just do what it does but don't patch the kernel.

It doesn't show where to get the config file, but you can probably just use the config file that cesman used (look for /boot/config*).

Hi,

thanks for your reply, but i think you may be confused....maybe not, but im guessing that you are. I do not acctually have the dvico card..thats just someone elses post that i quoted. I only own the technisat airstar 2, and thats what im trying to get working. If anyone has any instructions on how to update to the 2.6.12 kernal, because i believe that will fix my problems, however i do not know how, and am yet to find any instructions that acctually work.
