Post subject:  ftp server, etc.

I am trying to set up an ftp server on my KnoppMyth box, and I can find a daemon already present on the system that I can start. Through the use of the locate command, I can find eftp and sftp clients, but no daemons.

Do I need to get a Debian package to do this?

Along the same lines, is there any browser on the system other than Lynx? Maybe Firefox, or do I need to get this also? I am talking about one I can use with the X desktop, not via MythTV interface.

Finally, are there packages that come with this distro that are not installed that I can peruse? If so, where would I find them?

Thanks,

Mike

Yes, if you want to run an FTP server, you have to install an FTP daemon. Sorry, I didn't see a point in including one. SCP works fine BTW... No, there is any browser besides Lynx and MythBrowser. Including packages are aren't installed is a waste of space. One can argue that MythTV i586 or i686 isn't installed, but I'm not going there...

Hi msfox99,

There have been several posts in regards to adding apps to the KnoppMyth install, including mozilla-firefox. Try a search and see if most of your questions aren't already answered.

Thanks for the tips guys. I tried WinSCP and it works great. I tried Samba from my XP machine, and it is very slow (scp wasn't). I found via Google that others have had this Sambe to XP problem depending on the NIC they have, and there is a potential fix which I will try. By the way, I wanted to use ftp because I grew up in the 70's! I am still learning the newer tools :)

Cecil, I just started setting up and configuring my system this week, and I few a few more difficulties to work through, but I want to say THANKS for such a great project! What I have seen so far is very cool.

also it's not fully featured, but there is mythbrowser in the mythtv interface which uses the khtml render engine from knoqeror.
