I do not have cable... all I want to do is use the S-Video input

2 things I've noticed about mythtv...

1: hitting escape brings me to a question "do you want to leave mythtv: yes? no?" it can take up to 1 full minute to see this message...

2: click on watch TV and it shows a black screen for about 30-45 seconds and comes back to the front end...

my first question is: is there a way to just bring up a video window from the capture card (S-video input) to insure its working?

second: am I missing some basic setup step or is this card not supported?

third: once it is working how do I tell mythtv to use it.

<quick adendum>

mythbackend tells me:

QServerSocket: failed to bind or listen to the socket.
Faild to bind to port 6543
... huh? whats that mean... do I really need a network connection (which is infact working)

I have created video sorces, I've created capture devices, I've added channels by hand, I've told it to default to s-video... nothin'

any help is apprciated... any more info you might need I'll be happy to add

I think you should be able to test the board with mplayer from the command line

a black window shows up... I have a good s-video cable and the output of the reciever is working properly...

OK, so this was posted in the Video4Linux mailing list this past monday (Aug. 22 2005) I don't quite speak V4L jargon so if anyone here can translate what this means my feable attempt to read it says something to the affect that V4L missinterprets the card/decoder configuration and assigns is Upmost Purple TV? does this mean this card is not yet supported and they just added a fix on monday?

Thanks for the replies, i made a card definition already and this has been
submitted to mkrufy, i have to implement Ir and radio and test a lot of stuff
and will, check all the things you mention about ir and others.

pci id repository obliviously says 12ab Yuan technologies.
and my card is also defently a 8275/90 tuner.

the remote control seams to be i2c, i can't find any gpio messages, either
under linux nor windows, also the windows driver has no trace of any IR init
or definition, it is 100% image/sound. regspy doesn't record any change when
i start the irwatch.exe under windows. so i supppose this is really not
passing thru gpio


i will also contact Wang-Chan Chen <m8923014@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
but i think he got a bad eeprom sloped on his board, if you compare the card
definitions on bttv-gallery, you will, imo, quickly come to the same
conclusion. but i can be wrong.

ok, a little futher now... but now in mythtvbackend.log there is a message when I attempt to watch TV that says: unknown video codec

sounds like that might be my last piece to getting this working... where do i find the video codecs for different cards (this card supposidly "supports video capture format (MPEG-1/2/4/VCD/SVCD/DVD.....)" according to the back of the box)

any help would be greatly apprciated.

kernel-2.6.14-rc3 supports saa7135.

so the better way I think is to build new kernel-2.6.14-rc3 by yourself and restart with this kernel.

to build the new kernel takes time but is very useful.
