Hi, I have performed an install of Knoppmyth, and everything is OK when using a monitor, but when trying to switch over to using the S-video output X11 goes to load but then goes to a black screen. All TV output is lost. The boot up comes up fine, and in colour (color to those on the other side of the pond). Things I have done: Changed BIOS to be PAL Changed XF86Config-4 to have the following line: Option "TVStandard" "PAL-I" Changed lilo.conf to have the following line first vga=normal Then did the lilo -v Now I have made these changes I can no longer get output to monitor - out of range. Any help pointing me in right direction is very much appreciated. |

use ctrl+alt+F2 to get to console edit XF86Config-4 to have vert refresh of 60 and reboot. |

Sorry I also meant to include fact I had changed XF86Config-4 HorizSync to 30-50 and VertRefresh to 60. Doing Ctl - Alt - F2 or F1 has no effect, so I am unable to get into the console at the moment. I can now either re-install to get past the no console access, but even then I am not sure why I am losing TV output when it loads into X11. thanks |

Sorry - it would be helpful if I said the hardware I am using: Epia Ezra 8000 Modulartech TV card (have installed Knoppmyth with and without this card in, and neither makes a difference to getting TV output) thats it! just a standard install with nothing complicated, but I can find no missing settings from any of the docs/wiki/forum :/ |

Isn't the sync rate different for PAL? OBTW - Go look at your /var/log/XFree86.0.log to see if it's even finding any working modelines. This happens when the TV can't sync to the signal being provided by the viseo card. |

Getting TV out working isn't all that hard but it often takes a bit of work. If you're not one of the lucky people for whom it "just works" then you've really got to put in the work to get results. Trying to cheese it is only going to frustrate you, and trying to use NTSC settings for a PAL TV will leave you tearing your hair out. - Determine the right sync rate and display resolution(s) for your PAL TV. - Go to the modeline generator page at sourceforge and generate the mode lines you need for those sync rates and resolutions. - Plug those modelines into your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 an read enough of man XF86Config-4 and more /usr/share/doc/NVIDIA_GLX-1.0/README to get a feel for the files layout and TV options. - Set your TV options in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 using the applicalble PAL standard and output type. Option "TVStandard" "PAL-?" Option "TVOutFormat" "SVIDEO" - In the Screen ection set your DefaultColorDepth (generally to 24) and then makes sure that the Display sbsection for that Depth lists the right Modes (these names correspond to the names of your Modeline from the Monitor section) As you can see this gets mildly complicated, and is a far more complex subject than I can cover here so read the man page and the readme file mentioned above. |

thanks for the advice tjc As I am a user of linux who hasnt recompiled a kernel, this puts me firmly in the Newbie bracket! I shall go through the man pages, and continue to try lots of what seems to be conflicting information on sites/forums. I am sure I am close to an answer, its is just 1 hell of a frustrating state!
