Post subject: | HAVING TROUBLE WITH FIRST REBOOT |
As a warning, I am new to mythtv as well as forums. I know this question has to have been asked before but I can't seem to locate an appropriate thread. Anyway, as stated in the subject, i'm having trouble getting the x server started after the initial install. When I reboot, the screen flashes about three times and then returns the message: "I cannot start the x server ( your graphical interface). It is likely that it is not set up correctly. Would you like to view the x server output to diagnose the problem?" I would diagnose the problem by looking at the output, but i don't know what to look for. Any help is more than appreciated. ![]() Oh, and here's my set up: Asus K8T800 via chipset motherboard 120 Gig Seagate IDE 9600 Ati radeon hauppauge 350 Thanks again |

I see two potential prolems, the Via chipset on your motherboard may have problems with DMA (but that'll bite you later) and the Radeon based video card. First things first... Hit Alt-F2 (or maybe Ctrl-Alt-F2), login as root, look at the file /var/log/XFree86.0.log. You can use more or an editor like nano or vi. For example: Code: more /var/log/XFree86.0.log
Look for obvious issues like "No valid modes found" or the like. |

I do see a message that says : "Screens found, but none may have a useable configuration." I have also tried a video card switch with a Geforce FX5500 256mb and that didn't seem to do anything. Thanks Also I accidentally posted in here when i meant to in the Knoppmyth installation.....If you could post you replies in the new post I made there I would appreciate it. |
