Post subject:  video out to TV problems

Hello!
I am a Noob at Myth TV, but have been using Linux for a bit now. (My home is M$ free!)
I am having problems getting a good signal out to my SDTV.
I have an Nvidia 5200 card that I run S-video out to an RCA adapter. That is taken by a proper video cable to my TV.
When I run though POST I get output to both the monitor and TV. Then the Nvidia splash screen comes up and the TV goes crazy. Blocky, chunky, just plain wrong.

I tried installing the newest Nvidia drivers, but the machine complains that X is running.
1. Am I on the correct track installing the newest drivers?
2. How do you stop X and get into just pure command line?
3. Any other idea?

Thanks in advance!
Jamie

1) yes
2) ctrl+alt+F2 If you actually want to stop X completely /etc/init.d/gdm stop
3) you need to edit the XF86Config-4 file and set your horzontal refresh rate to 60

Thanks X.
Can I assume the XF86Config-4 is in the /etc/ directory somewhere?

- See this page for a FX5200/NTSC example.
http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=XF86ConfigForFX5200HowTo
- Turn on "bob" deinterlacing under the setup TV settings playback menu.

Thanks for the replys.
I will try the interlacing.

I got the TV output to work by doing this:

If you have an nForce chipset or any nVidia graphics card, and want to use its TV out capability, you may want to edit /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 and add:

Option "ConnectedMonitor" "TV"

From here http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... ythInstall

Onward and up ward!
I will be back soon with more questions! Thanks for the help.

Post subject:  More of the same

Ok, so now I can get either the TV to work, or the monitor but not both.
Can someone suggest a mod in the /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file to do this?

It is real tough to read the GUI on a 13" TV screen with these old eyes!

Thanks in advance!
Jamie

search the forums for "twinview" also note that there are inherent problems with showing it on both screens.
