Auto install doesn't work for this so I need some guru to guide me
I like to install in 4gb old harddrive other partitions and use sata 200gb for vcr purposes. Sata is divided in four FAT32 partitions and I like keep them that way if possible.
Is this possible to do and if so, how?

The manual install method should cover this. HOWEVER, I would strongly suggect you reformat the SATA drive to a single partition and definitely not FAT32. FAT32 will limit you to 4Gb files which is not enough for more than 2 hours of a recording. Why would you want 4 partitions? The idea is to have a single large 'cache' for holding recordings

Thank you for your answer.
Yes, you are right. Maybe I don't need so many partitions. But if I have understood right, FAT32 is only format that I can use that works in Windows and Linux. Because I use both.
I have images, music and video files in this 200gb harddrive.
I like to use at least images and music in both systems.
Maybe 50 gigabytes would be enough for those. So, I could make one partition 150gb for tv recordings.
I could format that Linux partition, right?
Or do you have better idea?

You say you are giong to use both Windows and Linux. Does that mean dual-boot or network access from Windows to store files on the KnoppMyth server. If dual boot, then yes I think you are stuck with FAT32 (maybe ntfs in read only mode). If network mode using SMB then it doesn't matter because only Linux is accessing the files so any good Linux format will work.
Your idea of a smaller partition for music/images and a large one for TV makes sense since only video will realistically exceed 4Gb
Regards

Hi,
4 gig is not large enough to put m$ and KM on at the same time. You can manually install, set up and run KM on the 4 gig, use small or no swap and have ~512 or more of memory. Not really a beginner project but a great way to learn if a beginner
I would suggest using the full 200 as /myth and open samba to allow windows access to the material via network. Exception would be if it was an external usb drive.

QUESTION: Is there a resource that helps explain the use of an external usb drive with Knoppmyth?
I've done quite a bit of searching here and on the Wiki, but haven't found something that explains how to use such a drive. For example, how do I mount it? What file system to use? I have a couple of NTFS drives filled with ISO files. I'd like to plug those drives into my Myth box and play those movies.

Hi,
Quote: QUESTION: Is there a resource that helps explain the use of an external usb drive with Knoppmyth? You don't have yell at us. Use google for obtaining some ideas.
I don't use ntfs except to format over usually, If I understand correctly, linux can read ntfs however will not write to ntfs. This is a safe guard to protect the data and venturing a guess leads me to suspect an instability in the way ntfs works. I'm just a farm boy so don't know.
As for using a ntfs externally to play movies from, never went down that path. I again would have to question the read efficiency and conversion on the fly if it could handle the task.
Once you have KM up and running you could always transfer them then maybe be ok?
