Post subject:  R5A22 Manual Install - Failed on Partitioning

Have a windows XP box that I repartitioned to make room for Knopp.

CD goes in and we boot.
I select manual install.
I set the partiions and shell out and manually configue swap. cache and mythtv (no configuration is descibed for "/")

when I select Cntrl-Alt-F1 after I finish the set up I get:
A command line warning which suggests "expected 7 tokens could only find 4 run --help"

And I am dumped to a command line.

I tried manually executing /KNOPPIX/knoppmyth, but I get a 'permission denied' .. even as root.

Any ideas? I saw one other person report this problem, but he already had an install up so he was able to use the 'upgrade' option and everything worked fine.

Using the Advanced Google search turns up this: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=120

BTW - Here is the search link - Advanced Google Search of mysettopbox.tv A highly recommended addition to your KnoppMyth and MythTV related bookmarks. ;-)

What do you expect me to find is dmesg? There are no errors, only a few warnings ...

Maybe I wasn't clear.. or maybe I am missing your point...

The system boots fine.
I select 'manual install' when it reaches the set-up screen after selecting 'expert' at the boot prompt..

I configure my partitions and format them per the manual install directions.

One the partitions are created and formatted and i return to the 6 options menu (Front-end, Auto, Upgrade, Manual, Reboot, ..).

I select 'Manual Install' and it appears to call a sheel script of some sort. That sheel script reports the error I listed below and I am dumped to a prompt.

I am 98% certain the problem is with /usr/local/bin/KnoppMyth-install

It is a fairly large shell script and working on a Read-only file system makes debugging a bit of a chore.

Would anyone who wrote that script beable to point to the correct couple of lines? It looks like I can move the file to /tmp and modify from there if I need to in 'vi'.

The later. You need to go back and scan that thread carefully. By default the install works on /dev/hda. If you're using a different device you may need to tweek a config file (and/or the script described in the thread) to point to that device. The error is caused by the script not being able to get the size of the device because it's looking in the wrong place.

Hey, wait a second that's not the right link! WTH! I cut and pasted from the browser! hang on... The title should be "Auto Install...I'm stuck" under one of the Installation sub-forums, original time was "Wed Nov 05, 2003 6:54 pm". Try this version:

Thanks for the follow up.

I am unable to figure out which files to modify or where to save them...

The link refers to ~/.knofig. And that same file is reference in the KnoppMyth-install script... but the is no ~/.knofig in either '/' or /home/knoppix'.

I *thought* that maybe the file 'knoppmyth' in '' might be the new file since there are a lot of variable set there.

I copy the file to /tmp so I can tweak them and run, but the variables are either not read, or are being overwirtten by something else... but nothing.

I als otried to troubleshoot the /usr/local/bin/KnoppMyth-install script since the problem is that it is call *some* command with a "--checkfile" parameter ... but it must be an external script because looking through the file the work 'checkfile' isn't used.

I think I am going to download Centos and set it up that way. It may take a couple of days, but at least I know I can set it up on a non-standard partition :-( Then i just need to deal with ivtv versions and setting up yum .. ahh the fun...

/KNOPPIX/knoppmyth cannot be ran because it isn't a script. It simple holds the configuration. It can be editted. While the CD is WO, one can copy the file to your home directory (which uses the RAMDISK) and edit the file there. One can also load a configuration. Just specify where it is.... Part of this is covered in the phamplet.
