Greetings
I'm currently doing my research on building a MythTV box for use with my Dish Network 811 HDTV receiver and I seem to have encountered a show stopping road block.

The HD outputs on the Dish 811 are either DVI or Component Video and I cannot seem to find any capture devices which work with either of these 2 formats. I can't even find an external device (Firewire or USB2) that does this....
In fact, it states in the HOWTO:
"There are no known consumer-level capture devices which will allow you to capture the HDTV output (either DVI or HDMI) from a set-top box commonly found with digital cable systems or satellite systems.
There are no known consumer-level capture devices which will allow you to capture component output from a set-top box."

Please tell me that this information is out of date!!!

Does anyone else use a Dish 811 with a MythTV for HD recording ? If so, I would like to discuss your solution.

Thanks
Joel

Is this still true? I've got SD outputs (svideo) on my current DISH receiver, and want to upgrade to a HD capable one. Looks like the current model only (ViP211) has HDMI, but I could probably find an older model (811) with a DVI port.

Still no cards that can record from either of those?

Still doesn't exist, and likely never will.

It is a lot of data, but it would not be that hard to do an FPGA that could handle it and compress it. Just not enough of a market I guess.

There is always the risk that a law would be passed making it illegal too.

Really sucks that I can never record HDTV from my satellite box though.

Actually, I think such a beast does now exist but not in the form of a card and it is very expensive.

yea.. i've been looking for this stuff too..

analog > digital capture exists for HD.. but it's broadcast quality equipment.. and your looking in and about $15K USD per encoding card.

and good luck with the drivers.. i've only seen windows drivers for these boards.
