Ok so here goes the information I have a D-Link DWL-G122 Rev B. wireless USB nic As far as I know this nic uses the RT2500 chipset. as I didnt have a lot of Linux knowledge I decided to use the ndiswrapper program. I am however having the problem that after a random amount of time (sometimes 20 mins sometimes 2-4 hours) it will stop talking. Here is what I know. I am using ndiswrapper 1.1 (comes with R5A26) and the drivers from dlinks website and have tried later versions of Ndis with this driver which cause ndiswrapper to blow up. When it stops working I have tried to stop and start modprobe ndiswrapper (does this ok if I do it while NIC is working) but all it does when I attempt to remove it is lock up (I can open another session on another screen ctrl-alt-f2). I have searched here and I see that it has happened with some people but no solution has really been posted. I cant really afford at the moment to just go out and buy another wireless nic (wired is out of question) especially if it might do the same. I am wondering if anyone has any advice and was also wondering if anyone would recommend using the linux drivers from railinks website and/or use the linux drivers at serialmonkey. If so whats the best way to go about it (I will try the howto but incase it doesnt work looking for any other help). Thanks Steve |

no-one got any ideas, would really like to have this working it kills part of the use of the boxs (as music server as files on winbox). Have tried serial monkey files and I had problems with them also. Im getting to the point where I may end up using one of the windows HTPC solutions (Judders at thought) just to have the ability to have network reliably |

well thanks for all the replys of help guys *grin* ok sarcasm mode off Just wanted to post on the site that I think I have solved the problem with the wireless nic. Did a lot of web page searching and it seems that usb 2.0 drivers have problems with power saving. I kill the usb 2 driver and my wireless nic stays connected and happy for days on end. command used (I think its right name) modprobe -r ehci_hcd Steve |
