Post subject:  DHCP Immediate Failure

When loading up R526, it immediately fails when I select yes to DHCP Broadcast. It doesn't time out or anything. What is stumping me is that it worked 100% on the prior install. I tried this 4 times last night and could not get it to work. Any ideas?

Gazing into my crystal ball I see... Hmm... That's funny, I swear it was working just the other day... Maybe the batteries are flat, or the magic blue smoke got out... :?

It might help if you provided more details. Type of NIC, type of motherboard if it's builtin, how the BIOS sees it, ... otherwise we're playing "Doctor it hurts!" or maybe "Twenty Questions".

Well I have been messing with it tonight. It is enabled in the bios. I run netcardconfig and it doesn't even time out. It just states Operation Failed. I tried to get it to talk by giving it a static IP as well, and that didn't work. Under Ifconfig it states Network resource unavailable and Network is unreachable.

I am using a 1.7 GHZ pentium 4, 256 MB of ram, and the onboard 10/100 on a gigabyte Mobo.

I did try using new cables and also bypassed the router and went straight to the cable modem, but with no avail. Should I pick up a $10 Nic card tomorrow?

Uhm... You are aware that Gigabyte makes more than one model of motherboard and that those different models have different builtin NICs right? Without the model number of the motherboard you've only narrowed it down slightly.

A cheap 10/100Mbit/s second NIC is always a nice thing to have in your spares box. The D-Link DFE-530TX+ ones are known to work well with Linux.
