R5a30.2 P4 3.2 478 2gb DDR 160GB IDE Nvidia 6600 (component out) HD480i Sound blaster audigy Dlink GB Nic MCEUSB2 USB w/Remote Logitech MX wireless mouse/keybord Okay I have an older PVR-500 works great I decided because my wife is trying to record everything under the sun to add another PVR-500, turns out the new PVR-500 has Samsung tuners in it, so when I put the card in the computer I see ivtv loading it but when it gets to GDM it starts i get a black screen for 5min then it drops to console without an error. I did some research and found that ivtv 0.4.0 doesnt like the samsung tuners so i did the following to install 0.4.3 which is supposed to support the new PVR-500. cd /usr/src wget <latest ivtv 0.4.3> tar zxfv ivtv-0.4.3.tar.gz cd ivtv-0.4.3 make make install --------------- no luck, when I pull the new card out of the system it loads fine, So i figure there can only be a few possibilities, -: I installed the new driver wrong -: computer just doesnt like 2 PVR-500's in it at the same time As the screen flashes by I see a Cannot Probe /Dev/video0 Please help Yes I'm a total Linux Newb which is why I'm trying to include as much detail as I can so you have a chance at seeing what i did wrong |

Looks like you're missing a few steps. Follow these directions: http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=CompileIvtv They should be more complete. Also see these: http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=PVR500DualTuner and make sure your set up is correct. |

hit shift during post so that it brings up the lilo menu and type: linux init=/bin/sh it will boot and dump you to root prompt. look at your XFree86.0.log in /var/log to see why its failing. Also scan through your messages file back to the point of the last lockup. |
