Okay,
Using the newest release of Knoppmyth, I did the auto install and everything went fine. When it finished and told me to take the disc out and hit enter, I did that and when it rebooted, it just goes to a blank screen with a blinking cursor.

I have 2 video cards in my HP. An ATI All in Wonder 9000 and a Hauppauge WinTV.
I'm thinking these might have something to do with the problem. Let me know what you guys think.
Thanks.

Where do you get the this? Has Linux started to booted? If not, you may need to change your BIOS and have it boot from the hard drive.

when I reboot linux does not load.. it goes into the blinking screen. I tried to change the boot order and booted from the hard drive and it still does the blinking cursor. I did a little more research and tried to do <ctr> <alt> <f2> and do fdisk to make sure the drive is bootable, but thats where I get lost.

I had the same problem with the R5 :
re-boot = black screen, <CTL><ALT><F2> = nothing.
It's as if startx (fronend?) can't kick-off. Apparently, the backend is loaded per the messages. Very frustrating for someone new to Knoppmyth.
I tried re-booting w/ the iso and went into the Frontend, then <CTL><ALT><F2> and started the backend manually, back to fronend to get to the menu. VERY low wife acceptance factor with that approach.

I am currently having this problem also. I just did the auto-install and all was good, upon reboot, all I see is a blinking cursor on black screen. Not sure what to do from here. No keyboard response either...\

Any ideas what to do?

Are you sure that either of these cards work under linux? Perhaps you should try an install with just one -- then the other. This might help to islolate the problem.

Hi,

Not to be rude but you did not answer the question,

What you have told us is you have a car, did something to it, and it just sits there now.

The guys here need details to generate a mental image of what is going on.
Cpu, mem, chip set, bios settings, type of drive, is it set for master /primary. Are you trying something fancy like dual boot?

Thanks
Mike

Just boot off the cd and when you get to the install menu select quit. You will be at a cmd prompt(well a shell anyways :)).

Next type the following:
su - (hit enter)

It will ask for the root password you set previously. Then type:

mount -o rw,dev /dev/hda1 (hit enter)
chroot /mnt/hda1 (hit enter)
vi /etv/lilo.conf (hit enter)

now you are presented with a text file in an editor. At the top of this file is going to be a line that says;
part blah blah blah

place the cursor under the "p" and type (without quotes) "i#"then a space.
Hit ESC and then (again without quotes) ":wq" hit enter again. Then type:

lilo -v (hit enter)

Next type:
reboot (hit enter)

reboot without the cd and all will be well. 8)
