When installing KnoppMyth it writes a bad lilo.conf file. I had to edit the file and comment out the second line from the top. I don't know exatcly what it says but it start with part and some other information that is not valid lilo.conf settings.

Someone may want to fix that.

Seeing as how you are a Linux guru, I await your patch.

Hi,
Dual boot with windows and a manual install does add that "part" to lilo.conf, a simple #part and then lilo -v should make it good to go.

So far I have found grub loader and Win XP Pro are not happy together and XP looses.

Once I fix my non-working KnoppMyth box and find out why things work or don't work I will be happy to post patches. :P

Yes this system has a Win98 gaming drive hdb1. After commenting out the part line and running lilo again the system boots again in both Linux and Windows.

Something else. Not only should this line not be writen to the lilo.conf but it errors lilo and the KnoppMyth installer does not report that lilo faild. The installer should trap errors so that developers can find problems like this before it gets out to the public. Or at very least people will know why it did not install. I had no idea what went wrong when I rebooted and all I had was a black screen. I found the problem quickly but most people will not have a clue.

Hi LinuxGuru,

Glad to hear all is working.

Keep in mind that the KnoppMyth team didn't really build the system to be in a multi boot situation. I believe it is designed to to be more or less a one stop shopping for someone ( new people included) to be able to build a home PVR (on steriods no less) with a minimum of linux knowledge and with a variety of hardware.

If I had the skills and knowledge to fix the the windows flaw, I would have sent it in long time ago, but I don't. Somewhere in one of the install scripts, after it detects the other os, it adds the "part: blah blah" line which lilo does see as an error.. I would be almost willing to bet that if you find the trick in the script, it would get changed.

Have a great day ! ;)
