Howdy there.
I just barely started using knoppmyth a couple weeks ago.
I just barely discovered the terrific transcode stuff 3 days ago.
I want to have it transcode all the previously recorded videos (about 100GB), but the computer isn't too powerful (1.1ghz athlon, 512mb ram)
i had played around with clustering before, and i was curious if this would work, as when i previously used it, i had to be doing alot of things at once, or force the compile to use more than one processor
if anyone else has done this with the R5B7 release, i would greatly appreciate the help, the last time i played with clustering, i used openmosix, they only have a beta version available for the 2.6 kernel release
Thank you.

From memory I think there was an option somewhere to control whether backends would transcode recordings from other machines. This might let you use multiple back ends for transcoding.

My question though is whether it would be really worth going to much effort? If you leave your Myth box on all the time then it will eventually get through transcoding them all. It might not happen over night, but it will happen.
Unless you are desperate for space right now why not just let it take its time?

Admittedly I haven't used transcoding yet so I don't know how long it would take per recording. Any idea?

It takes awhile to transcode, I haven't timed it yet. That's part of the problem, the main machine is only a 1.1ghz. I have a pretty big surplus of videos waiting to be transcoded. It's unable to catch up to current recordings, I have plenty of storage space, but this also affects commercial flagging, I have recordings that are 2 days old still in the job queue for comercial flagging. If I can't find any other solution, I'll probably just stop it from recording for a few days so it can catch up, but I'd hate to do that. I'll also look up info on what you mentioned about having another backend to do the transcoding or commercial flagging.
Thanks.
