I am trying to set up a dvb-c card. Unfortunately, my provider (Kabel BW) isn't in dvbutils, so I can“t generate a channels.conf to find a start fequency for the scan.

I have been generally following http://www.ethics-gradient.net/myth/mythdvb.html. I tried using frequencies from neighboring regions. I did manage to get a lock and several channels were found. However, the scan losted lock half way through and all the found channels were snow. I suspect that one of the parameters I entered to start the search were wrong. AUTO options didn't work with my card.

EDIT: The Scan completed if left running. Playing around it seems the scan went fine, it seems to either work, or not work if something is wrong. However, the card will fail to tune to a channel (the snow was because it would default to back to my 250 card which was unplugged).

It seems that the card will successfully scan the channels, but won't tune them in when watching TV. None of my searches have found anything like this. The channels are unencrypted as shown in the scan on the KBW web pages.

Any pointers?

Thanks,

Allen

Okay, I completely misunderstood how myth handles channels when there are multiple cards...

So now I can watch DVB-C channels if I start a recording on the PVR card. However, C doesn't switch tuners and I can't swap in PiP. I also don't have sound on all the other channels.

Anyway, the scan now works. I just picked a channel from de-Muenchen, so this can be closed. I'll have to do more searches on my other problems...

Hello,

I also have Kabel-BW and a DVB-C card with no success on scaning channels. Which entries have you done to get a scan?

Regards
Jo

First off, DVB is improving with each Mythtv release, so you are best off to use the most recent knoppmyth release.

I got most (all?) channels as follows:

Find the Muenchen transponder list by executing (Muenchen isn't KBW, but they both used to be Ish, so it seems to work):
Code:
find / -name '*muenchen*'
In this file, you will find a list of transponders. Put them all in using the setup for your card. The number with 6 zeros is the frequency, the number with 5 zeros goes in the field below it (I forget the name). You also have to set the QAM value on the right of the transponder entry to match what is in the Muenchen file (QAM64, I think). Once all the transponders are in, you can do a scan of all transponders.

Note: KBW seem to be changing things around at the moment. A lot of channels were missing the first time I did this that appeared last week when I did a re-scan. Also EPG is missing from several channels (ex. RTL and ORF). Finally, ORF-1 keeps coming up as encrypted for some reason.

Note2: Before I did this, I did a channel search by just entering in a frequency and this found some (but not all) transponders. I'm not 100% sure if all the channels I have now can be found by using the Muenchen transponder list or if I have some from transponders found on my first try. There is a way to convert the Muenchen transponder list into a list of channels (I forget now, but "man -k dvb" will find it). You might also want to try that and then doing a channel search using one of the channels found.

Good Luck,

Allen

An additional note on the scanning: I found a lot of channels that the scanner identifies as encrypted that really weren't. I.e. I did a scan that did not skip encrypted channels and several found were viewable. These were not temporarily unencrypted channels, but ones listed by KBW as unencrypted (ex. ORF1/2. SW1/2, etc.).

I suspect this may be a KBW issue. The program data is also missing on these (and a few other) channels. I have seen complaints elsewhere about this.

Hi ...

I'm using Siemens DVB-C with analog module. tried different scans with using muenchen berlin ... now channels are listed in database, but could not switch to via mythtv ... only possible to watch analog channels :-(

Maybe I'm doing some mistakes in myth-setup ... with connections, sources and so on :-(

Maybe someone could give me some hints ... discribing his tv settings in setup ... card has 4 inputs -> dvb, television, svideo, composite ...

how to switch in tv mode ... do i have to change my input telefvision for analog / dvb for digital channels?

How does mythtv know which input to use, if it is like I think (input television / dvb) ... where is this information stored in channelsetup inside the database?

Or am I totally wrong?

Thanks
Martin

First off, mythtv is a little confusing with the tuner select sometimes (it is *much* improvied with 0.19, but still sometimes confusing).

Have you tried the change tuner command (check the myth manual, I forget the keystroke). This assumes that you have set the first channel to use for that input to be a configured channel.

Alternatively, try using the program guide to change to a DVB channel. This works in 0.19.

Finally, if you get analog, I assume you have at least the "television" setup in "input connections". Have you tried setting up ONLY "dvb"? This might simplify things. Then try adding the analog as a second step. Might be best to clear everything and re-scan the dvb channels first.

Cheers,

Allen

Hi Alien,

Thanks for your answer ...

Cleaning up everything ... ohhhhh noooooo ... god may help me not to do so ... it was much work. My grabber does not provide channelnumbers and I have to assign the xmltvids by hand :-( ... many other manual work.

I hope to get it work ... maybe I try to export database for backup purpose ;-)

Martin

That's what I had to do.... several time as I tried different things. A hint if you do this: Do a full backup, but if you restore, make a copy of mythrestore and edit it to only restore the mysql database.

As for assigning channel numbers and xmlids, use the web interface.... much easier.

Cheers,

Allen

Yes, I had to do it too many times in the past ...

Yes, I did it a bit different (manual), but it works :-)
