Post subject:  R5C7 Cannot open card TwinhanDTV ATSC & VisionDTV Sat Ex

Now let me start by saying that R5C7 found the cards from the start. I see them listed when the system boots. Others have these cards working fine(after some work). I have read pages of post on them I still can't figure out why in the setup screen I get a "Can not open card" error. for DVB0 & DVB1. I am going to start another install from scratch this week and anything info I can get will be most helpful.

P.S. I don't know the answers to the following questions:
Is the backend keeping the front end from seeing the cards?
Is the IP 127.0.0.1 setup correct for a single system?
Should I be worried about permissions?

Please help, I don't want to buy Winblows XP just to get these cards working.

Biostar M7NCD Pro, AMD Athlon 1ghz, 512k ram, 120 gb Seagate Barracuda.

I beleive you need to make sure the backend is not running to install the cards ( /usr/bin/mythbackend stop )

In answer to your questions
I beleive so
Yes
No, not for an install.

Thanks bearwood
I tried setup with the backend off and on and no luck. I also found this post

I checked dmesg and found out I have the same problem. Now I need to know why that solution won't work for me.

I'm just playing around on another box trying to get a frontend working and on this box which has a Avermedia 771 card installed I had to

modprobe dvb-bt8xx
echo dvb-bt8xx >> /etc/modules

to get the "Can not open card" error to go away. Hopefully you have got past this point.
