I have successfully connected a moto 6200 via Firewire to a R5B7 Knoppmyth box. It can change channels, get and record video with correct audio some of the time, but it also may get correct video with noisy audio clicks/static. Anyone else seen this?

I am for the moment am not using S/PDIF out for audio. The audio is connected to a stereo via standard analog RCA audio jacks. I am wondering if this is what 5.1 digital sound pushed through 2 analog channels would sound like. There is no resemblence to the actual audio. Just noise.

This problem is not consistent. Sometimes you'll get correct audio on a given channel and at other times static.

Thanks in advance.

could be a 5.1 issue. I had something similar long time ago when I wasn't using spdif, but I didn't get static I just got the rear channel, so I would just get like crowd noise or music or other such nonsense.

Yes, it is a pass through issue. If you use firewire to obtain HDTV on system an analog audio out make sure that both:

Enable AC3 to SPDIF passthrough
Enable DTS to SPDIF passthrough

are unchecked in the Setup->General->Audio screen.
