I currently don't have HDTV support in my box, and am wondering what the typical video bitrate is for these formats? Can someone who receives programming in these formats post back for me? There is a utility for win32 that will display this information called gspot (available here). I don't know how to get this information under LINUX. Thanks in advance! |

The bit rate is in the range of 19 - 20 mbits/second. |

20 mbits/sec = 160 mbytes/sec = 160,000 kbytes/sec 160,000 kbytes/sec = 562,500 megs/hour? Is that right? For a 720p stream, the space is about 1/2 a gig hour? |

20 mbits/sec = 2.5 mbytes/sec (20 / 8 = 2.5) 2.5 mbytes/sec * 3600 seconds (1 hour) = 9GB/hour Moving away from the math, for a 1 hour recording the file sizes I see in my system are: 720p - 5GB 1080i - 7GB |

720p - 5GB 1080i - 7GB For the record, the difference is probably that no one is broadcasting at the max bitrate, and also any station that's multicasting other channels along with HD has its HD bitrate reduced from their max broadcast bitrate. |

I'm just interested to help budget a new machine once we go HD here. My biggest problem will be having the mythbox interface w/ my digital cable box. I tried the serial cable method but my cable company must have disabled that functionality in the digital box. |
