Adding DTV to my myth box and I'd like to be able to record multiple OTA hd channels. Can I just throw a simple coax splitter on my antenna in order to record multiple channels? |

Yes. If your signal is strong enough. If it's not you may need to get a (good) signal booster. |

Yes, but it won't improve the signal any. So if you have a marginal signal, this may force you over the edge. I have a good 4-way splitter mounted on the back of my component rack. So the runs from the splitter to the tuners are only 2-3 feet. I've also used a powered distribution amp, and that worked well. I've got a big antenna with pre-amp, so I've got plenty of signal strength. Your mileage may vary. |

I've got one of the Terk desktop HD antennas with a RadioShack splitter that works pretty well. I tried a splitter/amp from the hardware store and that actually made things worse. I'm only 11 miles (and uphill) from the towers so I get a pretty good signal. |

Also remember if you put a booster/amplifier in make sure it is right next to the antenna. If you don't, you will loose a lot of the signal before it is boosted. Garbage in gabage out. You could always build a second antenna. I have built a few, very simple and cheap to do. Here is a link to a thread with further discussion on it http://www.lumenlab.com/forums/index.ph ... =9613&st=0 A pic of the first one I built is on page 2. It took 15 minutes to make but works great. With multiple antennas you can point them in different stations if needed and set the tuners up for those channels. It works much better than a rotator. |

You will need to have them shielded from the other transmitters it is not pointing to, as they will pick up reflected/stray signals from the other transmitters. In addition you may need to put in filters to ensure that the others are filtered out to reduce ghosting and other interference. Bruce S. |
