Here's some basics about my setup. I'm very likely leaving out something critical. If so please let me know.

I have both a myth box and a Sony DHG-HDD250 DVR connected to a 55" Sony LCD projection. The Myth box is outputting through an 5200 Nividia card through a DVI/HDMI cable at the TVs native resolution using the modeline:

Modeline "1344x728" 74.160 1344 1424 1464 1648 728 729 734 750 -hsync -vsync

Here's the issue:
Recording from the same OTA input, There is a noticeable difference in the picture quality between the two boxes, especially in solid or near-solid backgrounds, like sky, or a wall, anything that has blocks of solid color, the myth box seems more grainy, more noisy, I don't know what the correct term is, but the picture isn't as crisp as the Sony box is. I've tried several different modelines, which make a difference in the size of the picture and overscan to a degree, but the graininess remains.

I am running R5F1 currently. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Yemo,

You may want to check your profiles as I think the defaults are set for good old analog.

Check the settings under: Utilities/Setup -> Setup -> TV Settings -> Recording Profiles -> MPEG-2 Encoders and make sure that you have them set to the signal, eg. SD is 720x480 (NTSC) or 720x576 (PAL)

Girkers,

I don't think that's the issue. I'm definitely recording digital signals. I've got both boxes set up to only receive digital channels. A

Because of that, I'm 99% sure this is something with displaying the picture rather than receiving or transcoding.

Thanks for the help.

Is 1344x728 the native resolution of the TV? If not, that could be the problem or part of it.
