Post subject:  Confused about the USA digital switchover. Please help.

Hi,

I just moved back to the US after living in London for a year.
The myth community was great in helping me reconfigure my mythbox to work with the UK DTV using a nova-t card.

Now that I am back in the states it seems that things have changed. And my old North American configuration will not work.
Zap2it is gone?
Is there a way to get guide data OTA the same way my freeview card did?
Which card can I use after the digital switchover?
Will my HD-3000 still work?

So confused ....

Cheers,

-e

Sadly, true. SchedulesDirect is the replacement. $20/year, slight improvement over Zap2It's excellent standard. The $20 fee is accepted as a necessary evil by the vast majority of us.

If the freeview card did it poorly then yes; we're identical. Seriously, EIT is a real mixed bag, get SchedulesDirect.

There's ATSC for Off-the-air digital, or QAM for most cable's digital. Most of the cards I've seen handle both. As always, check for drivers before getting the card. Recording off cable w/o a box from the cable co will only get you unencrypted channels, which depending on where you live could mean "nothing but what's available OTA." If you're going to use a cable box then you might lose HD, but probably will be able to use an analog card depending on the cable box's outputs.

Yes, it's one of the ones that handles both ATSC and QAM.
