Post subject:  720p and 1080i

By looking in the MythFrontEnd.log (from a tip on these forums) I can see what standard my broadcasters are sending in. I have one that sends in 720p with the rest either sending 1080i or the standard 480i.

The 1080i plays back smoothly, but the 720p audio breaks up (the picture looks good though). Is there something special that must be done for 720p?

Thanks.

Are you driving your HDTV display at 1080i (or its equivalent, 540p) or 720p? My guess is that you're running at 1080i, thus no scaling of 1080i signals, thus no problemo. Once you start scaling, then big problemo.

You could try switching to 720p for 720p playback and see if it helps.

OK, rooting about on gossamer-threads gave me the hint to update alsa and select extra audio buffering in the playback settings. I'm now able to enjoy 720p also. And there appears to be nothing wrong with the picture.
