And how?

I'm running KnoppMyth R5A16 on a Prescott 3.2/800 with an 848 chipset to single-channel DDR400 (yes, I'm swapping that mobo out...) My video card's based around an NVidia GF4-Ti4200, which the HD3k docs say can do... motion compensation? IDCT plus motion comp?

Anyway, what do I need to be doing, drivers or apps-wise, to get them to talk to each other? My HD-content is pretty choppy when I'm viewing it live, and I'm suspecting that means something's doing more of the MPEG decoding than it should.

If you like to have your pvr freeze up all the time you can turn on xvmc and use the mpeg2 offloading, otherwise you cannot do any mpeg2 offloading. for the xvmc problems search this forum and gossimer.

No; haven't installed any software or drivers that aren't part of R5A16.

From what I remember, NVidia's drivers are binary-only... and truth is, I don't know where I'd hook that into the rest of the system software.

Boy, you REALLY didn't read the directions did you...

The Nvidia drivers come bundled. All you need to do is run the script describe in the post-install instructions. Since you've got an "older chipset" you probably need to run the one to install the older driver:
Code:
install-nvidia-6629-debian.sh

BTW - Given your handle you should probably go read the Evil Overlord's handbook: http://www.eviloverlord.com/lists/overlord.html especially item # 57.

s/read/find/ and you've got something. :) Seriously - where ARE the docs?

edit: #121 in that list is particularly appropriate, too.

Hey! The Wiki's up!

(I did see the links to it, but I couldn't get to the site for days; I figured it was dead.)
