Post subject: | HD-3000 install -- did it "just work"? |
I have recently installed an HD-3000 and have gotten it working, however, some issues came up and I would like to get sense if these problems are unique to my system or if others are also seeing them also. Please take the poll. Please post the results of your "lspci -v". If you had installation problems, please briefly describe what they were and what you did to resolve them. Thank you! Andrew Lynch |

Andrew, I've read your other threads... maybe it is motherboard related, as I didn't have to do anything. I'm using a Chaintech 7NIF2. My HD3000-related output from lspci -v Code: 0000:01:07.0 Multimedia video controller: Conexant Winfast TV2000 XP (rev 05)

Thanks! I am writing a page for the knoppmythwiki page to help other knoppmyth users who get in a jam. Please don't take this as criticism, I am just trying to document how to get the HD-3000 work with R5A16 if things don't "just work". Again, thanks for all the great work on KnoppMyth! Andrew Lynch PS, HDTV is awesome! |

Mine worked out of the box. I have two HD-3000 tuners and one HD-2000. I had to follow cesman's instructions carefully to get the HD-2000 working. I'm using R5A16 with an Intel 3.2GHz HT processor on an Abit AS-8 m/b with 1G of RAM and 1T disk. Code: root@mythtv:~# lspci -v

It just worked on Dragon hardware. I don't have human-readable (or Human-readable) lspci data handy, but here's an excerpt of "lspci -mn" for the hd-3000 card in PCI slot 1: 01:07.0 0400 14f1 8800 05 00 8800 3000 01:07.2 0480 14f1 8802 05 00 8802 3000 |

As discussed elsewhere my HD-3000 was recognized as a BTTV card like yours... Quote: 0000:02:08.0 Multimedia video controller: Conexant Winfast TV2000 XP (rev 05)

my card is detected as a bttv card as well, and I also have an older model pvr250 in the box, however neither kept it from "just working" (outside of the messy way you have to setup the listings) Code: 0000:01:06.0 Multimedia video controller: Brooktree Corporation Bt878 Video Capture (rev 11)

Sorry I was unclear, it's recognized as a bttv card before it's recognized as a HD-3000 or before anything else is recognized as a videodev. As a result the bttv identity trumps everything else, and neither the HD-3000 or the PVR-250 work as desired... |

both my hd and pvr cards work as desired, I just have to make sure to use /dev/video1 for my pvr card, not trying to say anyone else's experience is not valid, just I have not had those difficulties in my testing. |

It looks like only ~1 in 3 people have the problem. I'm guessing it's related to the MoBo or maybe BIOS settings which affect the bus address assignments and thus order that lspci lists the cards. I'm also pretty sure that monkeying with the search order should cure it. |

It is hard to really draw any conclusions based on this small of a sample size but I think you could safely conclude that some people are having problems with the HD-3000 install. I am hoping that enough people successfully experiment with the HD-3000 and build up some helpful tips in a HOWTO. If you have pearls of wisdom, don't be shy, write them into the HOWTO! http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page ... 3000_HOWTO I appreciate all the helpful discussion and tips so far. My HD-3000 seems to be working fine now. I can record and watch HDTV programs, I can even watch Live TV if I am careful about which stations I pick. The utilities like dtvscan and dtvsignal can be made to work and they are a huge wealth of knowledge about the reality of the HDTV reception. I think my channel list actually has several false detections which have created some bogus stations that when you try to tune them and display them (especially with XvMC enabled) the system goes crazy and locks up. As the HD-3000 and KnoppMyth HDTV mature, I expect the HDTV aspects will get more robust. I am very happy with it now. Hats off to the KnoppMyth gang! Thanks! Andrew Lynch |

Post subject: | HD3000 working, after some mods to MythTV |
Put me in the working now, but not out of the box category. I had to unload all cx88 modules and then modprobe cx88_atsc before I could get a valid /dev/video0 driver. This was with the KnoppMythR162 (I think, latest as of 9/5/05) install. ** This was very confusing to me, so I hope it helps others: before you get a valid /dev/video0 driver, dtvscan and dtvsignal will return bogus results. In fact, I determined dtvsignal will not tell you if you don't have a valid /dev/video0 driver if the module behind it is loaded but not running right. It looks like dtvsignal will read input from any valid character device. For example, I thought the results were off, so I tied: dtvsignal /dev/zero 28 The output was exactly the same, a 000 signal level and it was updating that value many times a second. After rmmod'ing all the cx* modules and them modprobe cx88_atsc, the dtvsignal /dev/video0 28 works great! * You won't be able to watch live to or playback a recording successfully unless the signal is over 50% consistently. My signal for a local PBS channel was about 55% to 60% and it looks beautiful! But before my antenna was pointed right, with a signal about 45% to 50% ... no picture at all. - - - Later, I upgraded my kernel to 2.6.12. Now, if I understand this correctly, the card driver is cx88_dvb (even for OTA ATSC). I still had to rmmod cx* only with the new kernel I modprobe cx88_dvb and then /dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0 is the handle I think most apps use. I am able to watch live tv and record. I don't think 2.6.12 DVB drivers work with the dtvsignal program anymore ![]() So far I have not gotten QAM to work with HD3000 though it is rumored to and the cable system in my area does broadcast clear QAM (unencrypted) ... someone with an EyeTV confirmed it. ATSC works though. |
